Just arrived and hour meter is broken

Well, I got my M105s a few hours ago. Been playing with it and besides a loose steering wheel and worn FL tire it looks good. I glanced down at the hours and guess what. It hasn't moved!!

This thing could have 10k hours on it! I bought it from a kubota dealership out of state who explicity told me via voice, email, and ad that is had 1555hrs. Well, 2 hours later it still does.

Whats my recourse? He's not answering his cell phone at the moment.
Expensive life lesson on purchasing - Move on with life. In future you can always say hour meter recently broke when you want to sell it.

Even at 30 minutes the 1/10 hour meter will move.

I'm surprised how many people think the dealer is absolved of responsibility for not checking the functionality of a very crucial component of a tractor. It is after all one of the main determinants of its resale value.

How is this any different then buying a car from carvana and finding out the mileage is off by possibly 100,000 miles or more? Has everyone been burnt so frequently, they've been come accustomed to it?
I feel for you. If you can prove that the hour meter did not work when they recorded its hours you will be in a better position than if you cannot prove it was working at the time of recording its hours. Other than that it will be your word against theirs. Next do they have a known history of misrepresenting their used products, did they inspect this unit any differently than the other used units on their lot. I think you are going to find out what kind of dealership you bought from and may have already found out as I am not that far in reading this thread. I wish you the best of luck. There is an old Irish saying and it goes--Caveat Emptor--oh wait, it's Latin for buyer beware.

I haven't read through the 31 pages of responses yet but. If the dealer can access work orders for any service or parts the machine has had it will hopefully have hours noted. From that you can hopefully get an idea of how long ago the hour meter stopped changing. Especially if the past owners started guesstamating the amount of hours over what the meter says.

I'm thinking if the dealer was in fact a crook looking to scam someone he would have fixed the meter, get it working, and nobody would be the wiser? Good that it did get settled - even with all the aggravation.

TYM makes all RK and some Zetor models. :)

What size frame are you looking for? Sounds like maybe at least 4000 lbs bare weight tractor. Cab or open? HST or Gear? Minimum HP? Put TBN to work for you. We do nothing better than spend other people's money.
80HP bare minimum, geared, 4wd, open station but wouldn't frown at air conditioning. Frame size, I need as heavy as I can get and as low and wideas possible. No 8 speeds. I need to run WOT at 1mph or less.

So this might be a bit too much?

Guys, he had an M105; I don't think he is looking for a 47 HP machine?

If you don't mind, do you have MF, JD, New Holland or Kubota dealer close? I know your looking foe used, but, and I mean No offense, but it sounds like you probably will contract maintenance (you say you're extremely busy). Are you against a higher hour machine, in the same size/power bracket, just the dishonesty? Have you considered a used state/county/contractor highway mowing machine?
I've looked at higher hour machines, but they have seemed beaten up. 2000hr max seems to yield the best results. Plus, everything has a max use able hour rating before major repairs. And it seems that the people selling 10k hour tractors are asking the same price as the same tractor with 1k hours, which to me is rediculous.

If this tractor had a verifiable 2k hours, that'd be different. I had a few people that know tractors well come look at it and they laughed. They said it has at least 4k hours.

As far as new, that's way too high of a payment.

In the final analysis, this is likely the best advicie. There will be no proving that it wasn't working if when the dealer took it in; certainly no proving that he tampered with it. Run your tractor and maintain it well. If this is something that is going to trouble you every time you get on the machine, the better thing is to sell it and move on, dealing with someone local and trustworthy.
This reactor would have been $50k locally. The dealer is taking it back as I previously noted.

With out getting too much into your business, what is the driving factors in the search; HP for a specific impliment, size/weight/lifting power; something I'm missing? If you can get away with a machine in 65-90hp; it opens up a lot of 'life style' guys used machines, with low hours, and all. When you get into a M105 class machine; used machines are Mostly going to heavily used, off lease, or big money.

An example of what was either a chore machine or a 'life style' guy. A 66 Hp cab machine, with loader for $43k and only 355 hours. That's a big step down in power and a significant step up in money. As a counter, an MF 5465, 109 hp, loader, cab ,2200 hours, for $55,000.View attachment 823089
Besides the work I have to do around my house, I am building a camp with it

Fair enough...how about 111HP.

I've seen a few M5-111's for sale that'd work for me and are the right price, but they also have DEF which is an additional $2800 to have removed. Plus when the EPA gets involved, they help nothing and no one except their handlers.

Considered rental for the big stuff and buying something for long term maintenance? I'm thinking maybe you could get by with less (heresy here, I know) once the camp is built and such.

Is a tractor really the right tool? Again with the heresy.

Hook an engine analyzer and see what teh hours are on the engine. You need to know the real hours for piece of mind and what service it needs.

It's not really the correct tool, but I'm not in a position to get a mini excavator, skid steer, and dozer. I need one machine I can do all 3 with for the camp. I realize it'll be slower then the correct tools, but it's also $200k cheaper.

The rental is difficult. Besides there being no where to rent from, I will need to bring the item out so frequently as the job comes up it'll incur considerable costs in just delivery fees.
