Buying Advice Just buy the darn tractor

I sold one of my restored antique trucks and with the money bought a '72 JD 1020 and a new Diamond C LPX low profile trailer. The trailer was an impulse purchase, I had the money, the dealer had it and I decided to buy it. Sure is easy to load a tractor on it.

F450?

Good purchase with the tractor and trailer.

Right you are. In hindsight I would have been better off to have bought the right tractor at your age or before.
Took me 10 Kubota's to realize what I really needed was a big one, so I bought it in 2002 (had to order it as 2002 was the last year for the long hood M9's and I have always been a hood (bonnet) person anyways and then 2 years ago, I realized that constantly switching out heavy hay tools and hooking up all the hydraulics and the PTO's was getting to be an increasing PTA so, I went and purchased another M9 (used) and the reason I did that was, both take the same filters and fluids and I hate stocking different stuff so I went with it and had my sealer (Dennis) make it whole again, from the dented hood to the loader to the paint, all good now and I still got it at a good price because I love to barter and it was a JD dealer and they really didn't know what they had, but I did.

So now I have 2 identical units but one is a cab and the other an open station. Neither one is going anywhere until I pass and at 74, that won't be all that long anyway. Someone will buy a well running unit(s). well maintained too.

Very similar to me. I had an old tractor that I got free of charge for repairing it. It worked well, but time took its toll. I put off buying a new one for a long time, constantly comparing and waiting for the best price. But in the end, my tractor died at the most inopportune time and I had to buy a new one at an increased price.

By the way, I've been checking out the latest tractor prices with Priceva and it's evident how much technology and innovation have impacted the agricultural sector. It seems the new models are offering more advanced features, improved fuel efficiency, and ergonomic designs which justify the price tags. While the initial investment might seem steep, considering the long-term benefits and cost savings in terms of productivity and reduced maintenance, it could be well worth it. It looks like my "new" tractor is no longer so new and I can think about upgrading again. :)

I have disabling health issues, but can still lead a mostly “normal” life, just not every day.
But I am lucky, compared to others
Life is short, enjoy it while you are here
Buy the darn tractor
I just bought my most recent one last week
A new Kubota L5460,
it will be the fanciest
most comfortable,
tractor I’ve ever had,
But life is short and I plan to enjoy it

Have you ever been to a farm auction and seen equipment with an "elevator" to lift the farmer into his tractor or combine?

It's pretty inspiring, really.

I’m sitting in a parking lot staring at the RDO lot full of John Deere’s. If we would have bought the tractor when we first looked at them, it would have been paid off and we would be light years further ahead with our property plans.

So yeah, buy the damn tractor.
