So, apparently, or allegedly, Allstate paid app developers to include data tracking and back doored that info to Allstate to base rates on. S

Was it State Farm, that Texas AG is working on now that bought access to track their customers phones, without permission? Maybe they was Gieco?
I quit driving to Dallas for work and asked about getting my insurance rate dropped. State Farm wanted to put a GPS tracker in my truck. I said no. It was very difficult to keep from cussing at them when on the phone after that response.

My work truck has a GeoTab plugged in at all times to monitor my driving on the clock.

It's always very satisfying to tell them to cancel your policy, but unfortunately nearly impossible to be prepared to do so real-time, during an interaction like this. It loses its punch, when you have to call back a week later to cancel with a cooler head, after making other arrangements. :ROFLMAO:

Something resonates laying out the auto club map on the kitchen table planning a road trip…

Always kept with the route and stops highlighted for posterity.

Had some nice National Park trips and saw lots of pretty country…

As a kid I was often tagged as navigator and at the ready with the map folded and on a clipboard.

You'd probably like the Golden Globe Race, a non-stop solo circumnavigation race that is administered with zero screens, zero comm's, and basically no communication or navigation technology newer than paper charts and a sextant. It's not as crazy extreme as some other races (e.g. BT Global Challenge), this is more of a "Zen" crowd, but still a huge challenge for the competitors.

Due to the number of major catastrophes in recent years, there is typically a device from which each competitor must send a single text message each day, letting organizers know they're still alive and in the race. But this device cannot be used to request weather or any other information that might aid in their circumnavigation.

Anyone know since 2014 every new car in the US has an edr aka a black box that stores accident info occasionally used to reconstruct accidents. Anyways I used "snapshot" plug in obd driving recorder from progressive in the winter when it first came out. I was docked several times for rapid acceleration and rapid decelerations. No kidding, anyone who's ever driven on snow and ice covered roads will occasionally briefly spin the tires when starting off from a stop sign. Occasionally lock the tires even with abs. I dropped progressive after I got my report from them.

I volunteered to sign up for my 1985 3/4 truck and was told not eligible… go figure?
