I was raised to know my way around, read maps, etc... a regular Boy Scout. I used to laugh at people with a GPS for not knowing where they are at all times. And I'd whip out my atlas, look at some maps, plan my route, commit it to memory and off I'd go. Then one day, I had an epiphany... a GPS is a map box. With way more, better, and up-to-date maps than my atlas ever had. And when I get hungry, it'll find me a place to eat, or a place to return my beer rental, etc... I love my GPS. And refrigeration. And toilet paper. And sliced bread. And beer...

I was just like you when I was younger, and now I love my smart phone and all of its many many functions including the GPS and voice turn by turn navigation (you still have to occasionally perform a sanity check on the gal). Heck I even like a HST transmission on a tractor..:D

I've seen too many instances where GPS has gotten people into trouble. I wont own one, but I will not condemn anybody else that follows one.
Different strokes for different folks.

Many years ago I went to Mapquest to get driving instructions to Mammoth Cave printed out. We followed the instructions to the letter. The roads went from interstate, to 4 lane state, to 2 lane state, to 2 lane county, to gravel and finally had us turn down a shared driveway that actually went through a nice barn and ended behind the barn at a river across from the park!

Hey, with the current "auto on" your lights go off and on with heavy clouds, brushy roads, tunnels, parking garages, etc., etc.

So the problem would be???? :)

People not leaving them on of course. Stupid not to run with then on all the time. Yes, I saw the smiley.

I'm having a good winter so far. No really bad weather. All the old junk equipment seems to work well. More small prodjects than time.

A few years back a GPS lead me across the Mid West and Eastern Us. The only strays were when I didn't follow the directions. Exspecially nice was being able to Find lodging and meals in the evening.

Can someone explain the difference between DRL and parking lights? I thought they were both the marker lights. Only one setting on vehicles I've owned.

DRL mostly now (I think) is that the low beam headlights are on all the time unless you turn them off. When they were first introduced they were separate white lights on the front that would turn off when the headlights were turned on, but I think they got away from that because nobody replaced the bulbs when they burned out.

Parking lights are usually the first position on the switch that turns on the lights. It's the amber marking lights on the front and the tail lights on the rear. Basically everything that would be on with the headlights but without the headlights on.
