Like the average person buys 55 gal drums of motor oil :)

Never mentioned that we were below aveage, average, or above average .... but our tractor oil certainly is above average! :)

Yep what is average anyway ?

I wonder what the shelf life is on an opened / partially full 55 gal drum of Amsoil ?
It would need to be about 5 years for me.

You'll just have to purchase a couple of barrels and find out! :D

Nope skypup, I will just keep buying cases of dello 400 and Castrol in gallon jugs at my local oil distributor. A case of each and I am good for the year. Well except for the 5-6 quarts of synthetic I use each year in my small air cooled engines. And about a gallon of 2 cycle boat oil.

Had a neighbor ask me once while I was bring cases of oil into my garage, "How long do you think it will last?" I replied, "Well, it's been in the ground for 10 million years and is still good, a few more years in my garage shouldn't hurt it."

I run the Amsoil heavyduty diesel oil in my 03 PSD. The TBN started at 12 and was 9.5 after 5000 miles. Thats pretty good.

I need a 55 gallon drum of oil sitting in my garage about as badly as I need a 2 ft long hemorrhoid ! Which is probably 90% of posters on this BB's "needs".

That was CRUDE oil...not refined oil!! But regardless a person doesnt have to worry about long term storage in a sealed container thats not permitted to rust. I already checked into that with Chevron people here.

Sounds like maybe 5 gallons and a two inch hemmorrhoid might do the trick then!
