Too bad you guys don't do a little machining (I know you do Kenny). I buy DOM (drawn over mandrel) 1.5" OD and 750" ID trim it up a bit, takes about ten minutes, and I have all the bushings I need. I just saved more than twice the price of the BB to Imatch bushing on a 2' length of DOM that will make bushing for everything I own plus!

Rob

Great Idea! Even I could handle that:laughing:

not trying to totally hijack the thread, but kenny and rob,

What kind lather would you recommend for doing small projects like making bushings. I am interested in getting one but know almost nothing about them. I used one in HS shop class but that was 10 years ago now....

I don't want to spend a fortune like anyone else, i probably wouldn't use it a whole lot.

thanks

Lather:confused2:

Sorry, couldn't resist:laughing:

Keep an eye on Craiglist, find a older South Bend or Clausing (those are to two I am familier with). Grizzly has some nice stuff if you want new. The problem is not getting the lathe itself-it's the tooling that will send you to the poorhouse! Buying used that come's with some chucks and other tooling is the best way to get started.

Lathes are like tractors, once you get one you realize all the things you can do with it. Check out a magazine called "The Home Shop Machinist", it's a great way to get started.
