Mornin Stumpfield,
Even though the nearest well is 4 miles away I would still be inclined to go to that neighbor and see if you could get some info from him. At the very least it might give you an idea how far you might have to go and what kind of GPM they got out of their well. I realize that the aquafier changes in distances much less than that but you might get an idea ! :)

Neighbor wells aren't really all that reliable. I drilled and have 20+ gpm at 65 ft. Neighbor straight across the highway (and small creek) went to 190 ft and got about 9gpm. That is a real anomaly though as this area lays on top of a big aquifer and it is almost impossible not to hit it...oops, I just recalled a new well since them about 1 mile up the road on the same side as the neighbor. Same story, deep and low flow while 1/4 mile across the draw other guy drilled and hit the aquifer that overflowed the well for a week. Weird.

You are absolutely right about that. It's weird. No one can be sure what to expect. The neighbor 4 miles away on the same side of the road has 2 wells. 40ft and 60ft. He doesn't know how many gal/min but he never run out of water. He can pretty much pump as much as he wants to water his vinyard. I also heard there are 3 1000+ft wells with <10gal/min not far from his. Everyone else nearby rely on spring water because the road was so bad that no well driller willing to go there. I did a little bit of community service by fixing the road for the drilling rig and will be the 1st well there.

Over here, we are sitting on a giant piece of granite. Not really any real aquifer. The water flows from east to west down to the central valley. The well have to intersect the cracks to get water. So, even there's a high flow well just 10ft away, there's no guarantee you will get similar result.
My well driller is an old timer and been drilling in this area for 30+ years. He had seen it all and very honest about it.

We too, have a 100+ gpm well. I think they dug down to near 400' before hitting water and then the water level stabilized at something like 300'

(or something like that)

so, here I sit with a 100 gmp well, they installed a 10gmp pump

My wife worries about wasting water with a sink drip. I tell her every minute we use FULL pump capacity, we're STILL "wasting" 90 gpm

Her uncle who lives next door, his well has actually run dry before. I think he's something under 10 gmp and it's possible it's half of that.

My father in law, lives on other side of uncle. HIS well is 10/13 gpm as I recall.

NO WAY, did we expect to get a gusher. Had I been here when they hit it, I would have asked about stuffing a larger pump down there so I could power an irrigation system easier.

I DID check the flow of water right after my pressure tank (removed in line filter and used that outlet). If memory serves me, I think I got something near 33 gpm after the tank. (methodology: removed sediment filter, prepared 6 gal bucket, turned on for 6 seconds. measured amount in bucket (13.5 quarts) and multiplied it by 10 and divided by 4 to give flow per minute)

So, did he get on site today and start drilling?

3RRl I'd rather have the 20-25 gal per minute than the 100 gal per hour. After I bought my place the well went dry 3 times in 5 years at 127 ft. Had the driller come in and add anouther 50 ft and have never had it go dry since.

He's been there for a week but only got to work for a day and a 1/2 due to rain delays...he only did the casing and drilled 100ft so far. No water yet. Will see what happen tomorrow. Here's a picture of the drilling rig.

Tom,
Tomorrow he will get nearer the quartzite rock and soon you'll have water. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you. His drilling rig looks pretty new. The guys who did mine had an old 1974 rig. BTW, your road looks great!! Did you do that with your new bulldozer? Nice work.
