I can't say I find that desirable.

I enjoy winter. every part about it!
The cold fresh air, the starkness of a black and white world, the late sunrise, the early sun set. The birds at the feeder. The stream of snow flowing out of the blower chute, the curl of snow and the sound of steel against frozen stone beneath the plow. Even the inconvenience of sliding off the road at times brings significance to life. Winter is filled with the punctuation that makes clear the expressions of life's vocabulary.

I wouldn't trade for anything!

When I was younger I had SAD which kind of put a damper on it, but it doesn't seem to affect me much any more.

I haven't had to deal with snow in over five years. We can get up to 3 or 4 inches - it will all be melted in a couple days. Except in the shaded areas.

It's a fact. Every winter for the last eight years has been progressively warmer. Pretty soon I can replace the apple trees with bananas.

You're not the only one. I never even bothered to register my snowmobile the last couple years. For the amount of money it costs, I want to be able to get out more than once or twice.
Hopefully this is just a cycle and we'll get back to "real" winters again.

We were watching an episode of Northwoods Law a couple of weeks ago and they took a couple of guys for no registration. I just about messed my pants when they said what it costs. Is that just for using the trail system or do you need to pay $121 if you're going ice fishing?

Technically, it has to be registered to ride anywhere except your own property or private property where you have written permission from the landowner. Actually, it costs $151 to register it if you're not a club member. You "save $30" if you belong to a club, but club membership is $30/yr so it comes out to $151 regardless. We may not have a sales or income tax, but they make up for it with user fees.
I used to get free club membership because one of the corridor trails crossed my property, but that trail was re-routed due to a different landowner closing his land.

Is Northwoods Law still on? I thought it ended back in the late teens.

Maybe I can understand registration fees for cars (maybe)...but for running a sled across a field or frozen lake???

What do they add to the snow mobile experience? It's just another government taxation over reach.

The freedoms are taken , without consent.

And then sold back to us, with conditions.

Just try not paying your property taxes and see who really owns your home.

Much of the money goes to maintaining and grooming trails. In Maine the actual work is done by members of various clubs established for that purpose. I don't know exactly how it works but registration fees reimburse the clubs for thoae expenses. It also provides insurance, as most of the trail system is on privately owned land.

Plus the state always has to get their share of anything.

First time trying that for me, and I've had near 70 winters with snow.

I am impressed!
3 inches of fluff that started small. Temps today got up around 30.

Question is, where does the snow go?
