Hello everyone,

This is my first post. I'm in Mobile, Alabama. I recently inherited the use and maintenance of a Yanmar labeled as a "YM 2500". The engine seems to run fine. My main problems are with the hydraulics. Yes, I've searched the forum posts and haven't found my exact issue mentioned.

1. My biggest problem is that the darned implements won't stay DOWN! It seems that the spring under the seat always pulls the lever back "up", causing the implements to raise. I simply cannot make the implements on the 3 point hitch stay where I want them. If I somehow finagle it to where I want it, any bump causes the spring to pull the lever back "up". What gives? Why is that spring even there?

2. Also, the "knob" under the front of the seat apparently locks the 3 point hitch in place. That works fine. But I'm unable to find the "lever" that supposedly adjusts the speed at which it raises or lowers . Does anyone have a web page detailing this in pics?

3. Also, from the rear what's the lever on the right side of the 3 point hitch? It moves back and forth but I cannot figure out what it's for.

Thanks for listening,

-Nathan

That leaver locks the hitch in place. Does the leaver that raises the hitch up& down stay in place when the hitch goes up & down?Or does it move also? If it moves causing the lift not to stay in place , tighten up the inside nut that holds this leaver on.

1. I don't know about a spring. My 1700 does not have a spring.

2. You are correct about the knob. The drop rate lever is nearby. It is next to to a macaroni shaped vent tube. The lever is about an 1" long and controls the speed that the implement moves. Sorry I don't have a pic.

3. I think that may be the drop rate lever

Another Yannie in Mobile.. We are getting popular

Hi NathanB. Great to have another yannie in town. I'm in Wilmer and just got my YM240 recently.

I'll check the spring thing on mine.

Welcome.

Welcome Nathan from a proud owner of a YM1500 in Morgan County Alabama. I'm sure someone will answer your question.

I know the spring you are talking about.I don't know what part it plays , but if you take the spring off the hyds. won't work.I've tried it.

I believe it is the lever that locks the 3 point in the up position.

I had a similar problem with my YM1500 when I first got it. Not sure if the 2500 is similar but the problem with mine was a worn out washer.

The lever that operates the 3 pt on mine has a bolt that runs through the lever and through the slot on the plate it rides against. There is a small spring and a couple of nylon washers that ride against that plate. The bolt is adjusted to provide spring pressure against the nylon washers to hold the lever in position. I hope I'm making sense here.

The problem with mine was that the nylon washers had worn to the point that they weren't applying any friction pressure to the plate no matter how tight I had the spring. I replaced the washers and my problem was solved.

1. Yep, my 3 point hitch problem was due to the friction pad needing to be tightened. That's fixed.

3. I still don't know what the lever on the 3 point is for.

New items:

Does the YM2500 have wet or dry brakes? It looks like a wet system. Both sides seem to be internally mounted within a drum with drain plugs on the bottom.

My problem is that the brake pedals have to be pressed ALL the way down before they operate. Then, they really don't seem to want to return to the original position.

I also think part of the hitch is broken. I think there's a tilt adjustment on the right PTO arm that's broken. It hangs allll the way out.

I just changed the oil and filter, then came in to post this. I'm going back out to install a new over run PTO clutch from Hoye Tractor. I also just bought a disc and box blade. Woohoo.

You have dry drum brakes. You should have adjustment on the linkage thar runs from the brake lever to the pedal. If it has not been already done, you can loosen the big nut on the brake housing & turn the slotted part with a screwdriver 1/2 turn then retighten the big nut .If your brakes arn't worn out, it should give you more brakes. You may also won't to take the brakes apart if they haven't been apart, and clean out the brake dust.

Yep. I took the right side apart. It was full of dust, and the arm that's acuated by the brake pedal was pretty much frozen in place. After some work I put it all back together and WOW. Like new brakes! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Tomorrow morning I need to do the same to the left. After that, I think all I need to do is get the 3 point tightened up and I'm set.

When I took mine apart (all the way apart) I applied a small amount of anti sseize on the moving parts so they would move freely. You don't won't to get the stuff on the brakes though.
