I had a need for a temporary power pole. And I had an abandoned power pole in the fence line.

Nothing but a thing

Best thing about me helped me set it straight in the new hole.

The hat IS a nice touch. Who will be climbing the pole? I tried a set of climbing spikes once. Not as easy as you might think. Almost set one of the spikes into my lower leg. That was enough - I let a pro do the job. Standing on the ground - watching - so much easier/safer.

I made it a bit farther. Even had the climbing belt. Climbed up it (no easily) but then found I couldn't force my self to let go and rely on the belt long enough to accomplish anything. At least I made it back down without injury.

I always make up my pole drop legs before I set the pole. I set the riser with wire and strike while it’s on the ground. Then after it’s set I install panel and ground rods.

They make nice supports for a full wave loop. Formulae is 1005/Fmhz. Or go to the page. Best to put a pulley at the top with you insulators at each corner so you can let it down for service with no climbing. In climates with ice loads you need to counterbalance the weight with a weight that can go back up the pole and let the loop fall to the ground when a big freezing rain ice load comes. When the ice melts the antenna will go back up all by itself.

I set 3 full length power poles once with a small Kubota tractor. Almost turned the tractor over. Climbed them with climbers and a belt, ran a 3/8" cable 200'. Why did I do this? So my friends and I could dove hunt and used the cable to throw decoys over with a fishing pole. It worked great but it almost killed me too!

I commend your determination, that look's like something I would have left to the pros. Are the gates open? I have a couple of grandkids that have never saw them. Besides, gramps has been hankering for Hucks.:D

Now that is a novel use for a power pole and cable. :)

I built a look-out tower with 4 poles that I set with the TC33D. Now the trees are taller than the tower.

I agree, but around here those decoys wouldn't stay up there 15 minutes before road hunters shot them.

Same here. When I was with the state, the first day of dove season was like a national holiday. When I saw where you are located, I said "Yup, he knows from where he speaks".
