Every one ever built is now 50 years old.

If you find a decent one, it may give quite a bit of good service.
If you find one that is worn out and buy it anyway, you will wish you never decided to bale hay.

RickB has it exactly right. An old 69 will either be a fair piece or a good boat anchor.

If you are looking to do small squares only, stick with either New Holland or John Deere. Stay away from everything else. If you are not pretty mechanically enclined and capable, hire some one to bale your hay, or better yet just buy it. You will find that just buying will be cheaper in the long run. People who do hay for a living may make you think it is easy to do, but after you do it for a while you will learn the truth.

What do you have for a tractor, cutter, tedder, rake, and wagons? Are you only available on weekends? Good luck with that one.

Maybe before you take the plung, see if you can help some one in your area and see what goes into baling hay.

Making hay is 90% the farmer's ability and experience and 10% the equipment.
