( and he would debate your comment on 2wd vs 4wd. He swears that he can pull (plow) better with his 4wd units with lesser HP than his 2wd units with more HP. )

I'd say that's very subjective. The tractor and hardware in question will make some difference. For instance.. I'd wager that a 2wd tractor with draft control will give a smaller non draft control 4wd tractor a good run for it's money when using a 3pt plow. The soil being plowed will make a difference.. and the plow design will make a difference. probably the biggest part of the puzzle is the operator. I'd put a skilled and seasoned operator on a 2n with a 2 bottom plow up afainst a 4x to 5x more expensive tractor and new operator when it comes to turning sod over. Again.. very subjective.. lots of variables.

Never said they did. I went back and re-read my messages and can't see a single instance where I implied the advice I conveyed applied in any different area other than where I specified it occoured.

Hey SoundGuy,

Now that sounds like something that I would like to attend and observe, with my own 2 eyes.

Maybe it's time for us to have a get together, for some barbeque'ing and observe a good ole fashion, Tractor Pull.

A good mix, of JD's, NH's, Mahindra's, Jinma's, Kama's, and any other's that we can put in the mix. Especially 2WD's versus 4WD's.

I for one would find that that event worth attending.

Most of the larger (above 30HP) Chinese tractors I have seen come standard with both draft and postion control for the three point. A test of 2wd against 4wd will only be meaningful if other variables are the same. Weight is probaby a bigger factor than 2wd vs 4wd so a good question might be in a given evironment, how much heavier does a 2wd tractor have to be to pull the same load as a 4wd CUT.

this business is comptetive enough comparing similar units without comparing new chinse compacts to vintage utility farm tractors /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

If you can sink up to the operators platform in a tenth of a second your ground clearance must be about 1/2".

Hey BlueChip,

As far as the pulling power of a 2WD versus a 4WD, In my opinion it is no contest. The 4WD, pulls better in a smaller tractor package, but a real life demonstration might be needed to convince some folks.

I remember years ago, that Dealers would demonstrate their tractors out in the field, but maybe those days are long gone.

This is a bit off the current subject, but I need to get a rear 3ph dirt scoop for my 224. What is your recommendation as far as the size of the scoop, that I should get? I will be needing to scoop forward and backwards, by reversing the scoop on the 3ph.

Any help will be appreciated.

Now that would be a good ratio to work up. How much smaller ( hp and weight ) can you go, under a 2wd and achieve same pull. i think weight will be a big part of the drawbar measurement for pulling.

Just my 2 cents worth.
JD 60 bought new, rebuilt 3 times, 5 starters, 3 generators.
JD B bought used, rebuilt twice, 2 starters, 1 generator and 1 trans rebuild.
JD 1070 ( Yanmar) 1992 model, 1 light bulb and a new seat.
Farmall A, 1 rebuild, 1 new motor

2 Jinma 354's modified, my sons use as pulling tractors only, 19 trophies and money won.

yup they all break and parts wear out, but them there Chinese should do better after all who wants to replace a major thing like a starter /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Good to see someone on here that knows these Chinese tractors. I've owned a Jinma354 for 3 years and the only parts that I've replaced are one lift shaft. The TY395 maybe the best diesel engine i've owned. How many horses can you get out of these engines? Soon as an old neighbor farmer saw my 354 he said that looks like an old perkins diesel engine. Is that right?

They are indeed "borrowed" from the old perkins design. You
can order the TY-395 governed to about 47 Hp with a commensuratly shorter duty cycle.
