pull some core plugs and the drain and backflush the block.

is it me or the pic? the radiator looks like the red paint has bridged some of the cooling fins on the radiator?

Papa bear, I am partial to having stuff rebuilt. If you have the time, I recommend taking it in, have it cleaned and pressure tested. The shop should advise if they can fix or recore. Seems like some of the replacement stuff is not as good as the oem...

Taking the radiator to the shop tomorrow.
Also flushed the block today. So after the radiator is reworked,I get the new hoses,T stat, the only thing left that concerns me is the water pump. I got this far but if I have to mess with the pump I'm not sure what I'll do.
Stay tuned for updates and what may seem like stupid questions! :)

test the pump, and see if the shaft has any wobble.

Took the radiator in to a shop that has been in the business for over 60 years. Even before anything was done to it they found issues under all that red paint.
We agreed to go ahead and have it cleaned and tested and than from there we would decide what to do.
Got a call about six hours later and the gentleman said after it was cleaned and pressure tested it was even worse than originaly thought. With the cost of labor to repair it and no guarentee on when other area that were not repaired may leak,I decided to go with a new one.
I had my choice of two different radiators that he could get,one being cheaper than another by about $100.00. I went with the more expensive one that is not made in China and supposibly is more accurate to the old one and fits better. He said if I bought it through him he wouldn't charge me anything for his time on my old one. Plus I will bring in my radiator cap to make sure it fits properly and points in the correct direction when on.
Just keeping my fingers crossed that the pump is good. I have no problem buying a new pump,it's just the issue of R&R.

quit crossing your finger and jst test the pump. It sucks from the low hose, discharges thru the top hose... should be pretty easy to rig up a feed and see if it moves water.

Soundguy,I value your knowledge and opinion on these Fords more than you know and your posts have taught me alot over the years. Your above comment kind of struck a nerve as far as "stop crossing your fingers and just test the pump". If it were that easy for me to do I would have done it already.
Keep in mind,I don't drive, never have and never will. If I need a certain item to test a pump and I don't have said item oh well,to bad for me.
Remember, I don't have the tools, parts just laying around, and skills you guys have, but at least I can say I am out in the garage, doing something constructive rather than sitting in the recliner the rest of my life.
I know replacing a radiator and some hoses on an 8N Ford is childs play for most of you on here but for me it is kind of a big deal due to my limitations.
Sorry for the rant,Was hoping to keep this thread light and entertaining.

guess that went out the window.

I don't believe you'd need anything other than a garden hose , rag, ziptie or thin cord or rope, fish string.. etc.. twine.. jute.. etc... to test the pump... that's pretty common stuff.

Since i struck a nerve.. I'll go ahead and back out of this thread and let you have at this. I won't bother you anymore.

good luck
