John Deere X475
I recently acquired a 2003 John Deere X475. I'm using it with a snow blower this winter in my business to remove snow. I put about 5 hours on it every storm. Problem is that I have now broke 2 detent caps. last one i lost the entire cap. To make things worse the cap is only available as part of a repair kit AM132338 at a cost of $93. I just bought the second one in 2 weeks. I need to know what is breaking the cap? is it a lac of lube or is the detent shaft too long?

How difficult is it to get this into detent or worded another way, how hard to you have to push the lever to get this valve into the detent position? If it is difficult to get into the detent possibly look at the detent ball(s) and spring assembly to make it is well lubed and nothing is limiting or restricting it's movements.

for refeence: My son has an X485 with around 2300 hrs on it with no problems so far.

Any chance water/ice can build up in the cap.

If so some folks drill a hole in the cap.

What actually breaks? It is just a ball behind a spring. Or does "break" mean malfunctioning ??

when you bought the first kit, did you change out all of the components?
the cap only part number subs to the kit, but , the original cap only number
is still available individually. M88062, but it's still almost $65 alone.

Sounds like the detent shaft is coming unscrewed from the spool.
