Light and sound. The universal rat deterrent. 2 legged and 4 legged.
When I initially bought property I parked a 4 wheeler RIGHT in the woods and immediately had mouse and squirrel damage. I have since learned that staying away from anything that can be used as cover for a mouse is huge. they don't like being in the open. this is why opening the hood or putting a light in there will help.So I park it in the middle of the largest open spot I have. I also put some mouse repellent (primarily peppermint) in the cab and under the engine enclosure. Haven't had any issues yet but my tractor has only been there for a couple months. REALLY hope this works as I don't live at the property where I use/keep my tractor. makes cats somewhat impossible. and even things like the ultrasonic plug in thingies prove problematic with limited power, off grid. Also living an hour and a half away limits general usage and increases the amount of time it sits idle. Im sure mice are more apt to congregate more in undisturbed places.Always an issue here. Pesky little rodents like to nest under the hoods and in the cabs of my tractors. I do use the bucket traps that work well but that don't stop them from building nests, only catches them when they go in search of food...
Had not only wiring damage in the past but rodent nests under the hoods can be a PITA to remove.
I finally settled on scented dryer sheets. Mice hate the smell of them and stay away.
I put them under the hoods on the engines and in the cabs on the seats and floors. So far (knock on wood), they have eliminated the nesting issue and damaged wiring.
Cheap and effective and they impart a nice smell in the cabs too....![]()
I have had good luck with the dryer sheets also leave the hoods open on equipment.Twice a little mouse has stopped my mighty Cat D3 Dozer...
The line to the dash mounted oil pressure gage gnawed through only discoverable when my boots were soaked in oil!
Mice have made other nest with zero damage but for some reason that plastic line behind the dash too attractive not to take a bite...
I did stuff dryer sheets behind the dash and no more oil soaked boots.I
What kind of seeds are you using?About my non-poison poison (seeds-baking soda-peanut butter), suckers are eating it from all 6 piles. Two piles are completely gone. Problem is I couldn't train them to lay in a line on floor when they die, so I could count them. No dead mice anywhere. I can only assume they are dying.
From the internet I used 1 part Gerbil food, 1 part baking soda and enough peanut butter to hold it all together. I used my dough mixer and mixed everything up, I ended up with six 8 oz packed paper cups. What kind of seeds are you using?
I don't think baking soda will have any effect on them. And they can eat a jar of peanut butter. You need to also leave them some Ritz crackers to put the peanut butter on.
