I am curious.... Being from Maine and being a pilot, where do you live and what is the name of the guy?

Realize zoing is a local issue and thus vaires a lot, but as his airport would affect the height of anything you might want to build and such it would seem zoning should come into play. Hard to do anything with rude people.

that's another issue in and of itself.. arounf here.. any vertical structure more than a tv antenna in height rising from your property requires specail permitting.

digging into the zoning issue may backfire against the poster if he persues this path. I've done work on faa strips.. if he got the strip.. zoning signed off on it.

as for the nusicance issues.. sounds like a long drawn out, expensive court action where everyone but the lawyers loose.

My (deceased) father-in-law lived literally across the street from john travolta when he lived at the spruce creek fly-in community over by ormond beach florida... they ( some members of the community ) sued him every time he landed his jet there... after a couple years he moved to jumbolair.. i'm sure bucket loads of money was spent on both sides.. that in and of itself seems unreasonable.

perhaps arbitration ??

I am glad things are(and hopefully continue to)working out. This post (and I just read the whole thing) reminds me of a neighbor I had who started a pissing contest with me. I put up with it for years, but finally moved(for other reasons). The local law enforcement finally told them they were going to put them in jail if they called (about me) again.
As far as flying low over building, consider what they did to the pilot out of central Florida when he buzzed the stadium during a Gator Game back in the '90s.

i skipped to the last page sorry if it has been said allready.
My wife and I used to do seasonal work for a balloon shop (couple hundred bucks for overnight work on holidays) and we sold a balloon called a "cloud buster". This baby was about 2' around and were stong enough to haul streamers 150 foot up in the air and last all day. I have worked at car dealers for a long time and cant count the time the FAA has called us and told us that they were to high due to the fact we were in line with the airport.
You will have to do the diggin on how high you could fly 10 -15 of them around your house but it might help.
I had a new neighbor that i asked to quit rackin his harley at 2am (little ones at home at the time) he told me to F off, so I would wait till the wind was blowing hard in his direction and burn all kinds of stinky stuff.
We get along fine now.

As I have gotten older I realize that everyone who wrongs you for no reason will need you real bad for something in the future. Kill him with kindness and see how that works for you.

just got over kidney stones myself, poor gal hope she is ok now

I lived in rural Maine for a lot for years and can say this is a typical Maine problem. In fact, part of the reason we moved is stated here. After the runway the neighbor built for his own use every moron around would do approach practice landings over my barns and house despite an "X" on the runway. Even the military a couple times with big planes. We lived on a 250 acre flat high plateau kind of farm so it looked good for an approach.

There is no zoning and the only hope is somehow the participants figure it out on their own. One probably moved from out-of-state and one has been there forever and dislikes the intrusion. That's the problem and the only way is to somehow get along.
You could get an attorney to annoy the other guy for plan "B" and that will work as long as you can make them think you are willing to make him spend lots of dollars defending himself.
That's what I learned.

Wow,

This is interesting...

Similar but different: In our neck of the woods - a pilot builds an airstrip on his land but it crosses a public road ROW now causing the use of public road to cease function as such. He also changed a water course and threaten individuals using the public ROW. He also barricaded the road so said public could not see what he is up to.

The building of said air strip is under federal aviation laws not provincial (or state per USA).

Also the strip is built up about 8' above grade or level of he road. We are talking a lot of material to remove....

I wonder what the out come will be?

lloyd

PS: I have an instructor that lives 1/4 mile from me but flies his plane from a runway a long distance from me - but uses this area as a flight path... during the summer almost daily. I often wonder who is mowing in the area but look up to see he planes.

Lloyd, im curious about this. How close is his runway to the actual road?

Locally, our "major" airport's runway is about 50'? from the actual pavement.. the fence is maybe 15' from the road.

Is this guys strip closer than that?

There also was a guy with a private strip where the new TCH was going. Well the end of his runway is now highway :p, but they extended it for him in the other direction, so the length is essentially the same.

I think that if the province wants to force the issue the pilot will have to move his strip, if its interfering with the road.

Im also curious how he got away with altering a waterway.
