This is a new one on me as any kero I've seen or bought has been clear.

Was that pumped or in jugs? The only clear I see is in jugs that is sold for heaters, its price is higher than on road diesel so no one would run it as vehicle fuel, unless they were really bad at math
The stuff sold cheaper at fuel stops is dyed, at least all I've seen.

I read about a device that will be used by the MA state police that will detect burnt off-road diesel. This device can detect the dye from the exhaust of vehicles, so the officer will be able to see the plume from in his cruiser. no stick needed.

That sounds like the same thing I posted earlier-

"I even read where someone was developing a spectrophotometer device that could detect the dye in the exhaust stream as you drove by...if that device works out then it will be very easy to nail people cheating."

Pump at a gas station.
Some years back I used to buy a little kero occasionaly .
Used it for charcoal lighter fluid and in a small kero space heater.
I sure don't recall it being red.

Think I will pick up a gallon at the gas station just to see what color it is.

I will jump in here. I have been buying Kero here in Indiana for the last 25 years and have never seen dyed. I just took my jug down to the truck stop a week ago and got 5 gallons. It was clear and $4 per gallon.

I know what dyed fuel looks like. I have a 300 gallon diesel tank on a stand at my home and currently have 125 gallons of dyed off road in it.

Like I said I have never seen dyed kero in my area. Do I buy a ton of it, no. But I do buy 40-50 gallons a year 5 gallons at a time from different stations pumped in my own jug, never pre packaged, and I have never seen a dyed kero.
