kerosene in lieu of diesel

/ kerosene in lieu of diesel #31
The law is pretty clear- kerosene is either taxed or dyed.
http://www.taxadmin.org/FTA/mf/kerosene.pdf

So the question is- around here clear kero is as high or higher than diesel, because of the tax, thereby making it a moot point to use as fuel to save money.
If somewhere one is able to buy clear kero for significantly less than diesel then I'd stock up:D Don't know how you are but you got it made...if I could find it clear and cheaper than diesel I'd buy a bunch and store it....

Well just stopped by my station to get a coke and I checked the prices. Diesel $4.95 per gal. Kero $3.99 per gal. Off Road Diesel $4.49 per gal. I asked if there were taxes on the kero and the Off Road and they said no tax other than our Indiana 7% sales tax which is figured into the "at pump price" of $3.99 for Kero and $4.49 for Off Road. Also asked if they had ever seen "red or dyed" Kero and they said Nope! It had always been clear in is 40 years owning the station.

The dyed thing seems to be a state by state thing. some states dont care, but many do. the dyes leave a residue in your fuel tank to that wont wash. iowa ther is dye in both kero and diesel. if your tank has residue you are guilty unless you can prove otherwise. saying that this vehicle gets used or had goten used as offroad only wont work either. they MIGHT believe it if you got the off road ag tags for it and then went to on road tags or somthing of the like. they also wouldent care if you werent the only owner and the prevous had used dyed fuel. you would have to prove to the mile with recepts and title change that it wasnt your doing else wise you got fines.

as for the bio thing yes and its no suprise either. thats happened plenty in eu where they want that tax $ to. its also a tad more difficult to be leagle there while running bio. here you just have to give some milage on your tax forms iirc they were wanting some more accountable records for bio useage. it really sucks to.

yes and no its like being caught with a counterfit 100$ bill. the pen proved the guilt now it is your burden to shift the blame using proof that you did not xerox a 100$ bill. it may not be the kindest outlook but with several million+ at stake no one notices the little guy getting steamrolled. most of the worst offenders tend to be other little guys much like the one in the right.

how many people know farmers that will fill with farm diesel when they have 5 propertys that are 20 miles appart. most will fill it and not worry till they get socked with a fine. they may not even think about the ramifications that those 100 miles they put on the road need to be payed for because they spent 500 miles that day total working the propertys.

So why is it "acceptable" for a private citizen to have a goverment official perform an unreasonable search (tank dipping)?

I see somebody messing around with my fuel tank and there's gonna be a Batman moment {Kazowwie!}.

Well I stand corrected:eek:
Just stopped at a station with clear undyed untaxed kerosene! How they do that I don't understand...but it was $3.99 a gallon, which is about right around .40-.50 cents less than taxed fuel. They did have several warning signs about how illegal it was to use in a motor vehicle and they also had the pump set back a few feet from the curb and had a 2 ft hose on it so one could only fill cans and not a vehicle fuel tank:rolleyes:

* I don't get that either especially at an off road event where off road is legal.
