My ancestors?If it makes you mad, I'd suggest you buy into this privet club. If you can't do that today, than I'd suggest you aim that anger at your ancestors. Personally, I've not the time to get mad at people who purchased a chunk of property, X years ago.
Eh I don't actually spend my time being mad at them, it is what it is. I don't have time to visit the UP multiple times per year so membership is a non starter. But would I support eminent domain to create a premier new national park? yes.
Show me another similarly humongous place in the US of such distinct and special regional beauty, within daily driving reach of millions of americans, that is completely private and off limits to civilians. Yes, plenty of rich guys have huge ranches out west, but that's just normal there. It's not here, in the midwest.
Just because these guys used their obscene gilded-age/prohibition era wealth to bully all the indigenous and early settlers out of this area and fence it off, doesn't mean they should still be able to take this kind of natural splendor away from us all today. The good news is, the rest of the UP is also incredibly beautiful, and available to enjoy.
