Key for YM 1700

Help! My only key is about to break in half. I read a couple of posts on here that said to get a key for JD 850. Well I did but it doesn't match what I have. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif There were pics of keys on one of the post (if you saw that pic mine is the 3rd key with the name Yanmar and # 30 on it). It's kinda square, cut only on one side with the # 30> Can anyone lead me in the right direction? Oh yea, if you need 2 keys that fit a JD 850 I'll be glad to sned them to ya. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I hear there are 3 keys for a YM1700 though.

Anything you can do to stabilize the other key while you are searching for a new one? Can you clean it up, hit it with some paste flux and silver solder it up.. then file it down? I've done that with a cheap padlock key before.. ended up outlasting the lock...Most keys are yellow metal.. and perhaps chrome over that... cleaned up and fluxed.. they solder VERY WELL... crack fill as well. Plus the silver solder stiffens it a bit.

The photo was in this thread. There was a suggestion in the thread to check with marine supply houses because yours is the key that Yanmar uses with at least some of their small marine diesels.

If your key is that badly worn, your lock probably is also. My lock quit turning to the "thermostart" position and gauges would shut down from time to time, so I ordered a new lock from these folks. The new lock, with a nice chrome keyslot cover was perfect, but I found the new key, (same), would not turn the old lock, nor the old key turn the new lock.
