I don't usually park in angle parking. If required I back in.
Why are emergency vehicles and corporate vehicles backed into thier parking spots ?

Are you saying you are one of the idiots that drive backwards down the parking isles? Cause in order to back into an angled you'd be driving down the isle the wrong way. And when you leave......yep, still driving backwards.

EMS vehicles.......duh..........they back in so they can depart quicker when they get an emergency call:mur:

Corporate safety managers:mur:

Just last week at work we had our annual fall safety training. Our safety manager was a new guy so hadn't been to one before. And the training was put on by a company that SELL fall protection gear.

The safety mgr came out of that training believing that fall protection is required ANYTIME you are over 4'.... INCLUDING ladders.

Had to do about an hour or internet research and printing off documents to right that ship.

Interesting thread. To the OP, do you want to meet a neighbor and possibly be friends with him or just get involved in what you feel is an unsafe situation.

I actually read this forum to educate myself. No two situations are exact, but I want to know what went wrong. I have many times held a child while mowing on a garden tractor. I have keep their legs between mine and had an arm around them. I have only flat areas of moving and very few trees. Like others have said, I feel they are safer in this manner than playing in the yard while I mow. I am able to teach them safety. They know what they can and cannot do. If I'm mowing, they know they cannot be anywhere close. They know if they need to get my attention, they don't come towards me.

I have never seen any safety accident article that indicates this is a dangerous activity. I have read MANY articles on kids not knowing mower safety and they get run over, or slip under the blades. I do not let my kids sit in the bucket of the large tractor or ride that if I have an implement on. I have read many accidents which relate to those activities. The person bringing up sports is correct. Too many people feel it's acceptable for the kids to have life changing accidents in sports, but not in other things. I feel that accidents should be minimized to the best of our ability, but risks are a part of life. Kids should be learning.

Safety is always important as is awareness...

I've modified some activities based on reading TBN threads.

I have a 60" zero turn mower. My kids have been riding with me when I mow for as long as I can remember and we mow several acres. They also ride with me in the skid steer, backhoe, and tractor but those all have cabs. I would not want a child on an open station tractor for fear of them falling off and being ran over with the implement. Heck my youngest son could dig with the backhoe when he was 4.

neighbour had one of his twins fall out of the tractor cab while be was backing up and was run over by a front tire. While the Dad was turned around looking behind the three yr old opened the cab door. The dad did not hear any sound difference because the back window was out of the cab to warn him. Only angle parking left around here is some town side streets, pretty much a thing of the past due to the inherent dangers.
