Killing Groundhogs!!!

If you use traps or poison you need to be carefull because these don't descriminate between neighbors hole sniffing dogs and groundhogs. A pissed off neighbor is a lot more bothersome than a bunch of groundhogs. I would try gas method or smoke them out as listed above. I just shoot them personally have shot snipper style from dinning room and bedroom windows on different ocassions when living in a small town but this is not a problem now since I moved to new rural area. Hope you have luck getting read of these varmits as they can mow off alot of plants in a garden in a single desteuctive day.

It's a little cruel, and results is a slow painful death, but automotive antifreeze works wonders. Put some in a pan near their hold. The sweet smell attracts them. It causes kidney failure. Be sure to protect it from other household pets.

I've heard that if you have coyotes (kioti) around that you don't have a problem /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif But my RED century would get upset and start digging holes all over the yard so I just trap the big rats and shoot all the coyotes. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

They wer assuming an explosive finish /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif, I was thinking about CO2 posioning /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif, not sure which it is - anybody more knowledgable? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

We have coyotes (had one go across the front porch the other day), and plenty of groundhogs. So apparently they are on a different timetable. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I've seen one groundhog every morning this week. I think it's time to get out the lead poisoning and do the same thing I did to his brother/daddy/uncle/cousin. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Traps ordered, let the fun begin!! Any suggestions on the best way to do this?? , never trapped before. Best way to secure the trap? Just place it over the two holes? I ordered Bridger 220 conibear trap.

Thanks

I use a piece of rebar. There is a chain with a ring attached to my traps. I put the ring over the rebar, the pound the rebar into the ground.

I need to tie a piece of caution tape to the rebar so I can spot them in the field easier.

Happy hunting. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

If you get a young groundhog, put him on the dinner table. Young ones are the best eating. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Just curious, how would you know it's a young one? When my dad lived on my farm he had a buddy who would come out and shoot the groundhogs because he liked to cook them.
Thankfully, he never invited me over to dinner, I would have to be pretty darn hungry to try eating one.
