KILLING GROUNDHOGS

My problem is with ground squirrels. In CA you can kill all you want as they have no protection. They are very wiley and if you run them down their hole, they may not come out for hours. I don't want to use poison (legal here) because of the dog. Traps are a PIA.

The best method I found is to take an old generator that I have and adapted a piece of flex conduit to the exhaust. Stick the conduit down the hole, cover the end and let it run for an hour. They never come back up.

We recently had a discussion about that "movin em down the road a piece." All that you are doing is dumping your problems onto somebody else.

Nobody else there. No houses for over a mile from where I left them. All woods and open fields sloping down towards a river.

We have "digger" squirrels here. They just make a mess of everything. A .17HMR works good. I'm sure you can enlist a few responsible helpers that would love the chance to take a crack at them..

Pocket Gophers being blown away by the Rodenator Pro - YouTube

Is this real or is this the trailer for Caddyshack 7.

I'm not going to lie, I want one.

I can tell you, use that Rodinator Pro in ground hog burrows and you are going to have a much larger explosion than blowing pocket gophers tunnels. I wouldn't want to be standing anywhere near that close.

I don't like the use of poison to kill any animal and I wouldn't use gas. I use a .22 rimfire magnum or my .223 on wood chucks. Only if they start burrowing in the middle of the fields. In the hedgerows, I live and let live.

Unfortunately, most animal "problems" are caused by humans encroaching on their habitat, not the animals encroaching on ours.

I saw a guy in Florida feeding the Alligators in the canal on a regular basis.. he just didn't care about anybody else!.. humans are food, ok..

^^^^^
That seems to be coming home to roost though.
Or perhaps we are hearing more about it up here because we stopped believing all of the gloom and doom about the economy.

I need to get serious about eradicating groundhogs (woodchucks or marmots, to some). Has anyone any experience with
the "Rodenator" which is basically a tool to inject propane and oxygen into their tunnels and then ignites it? (Yes, I am familiar
with game laws but enough is enough).
Thanks

So what are the groundhogs doing? Eating your carrots?

People drop ALL kinds of animals off at my brothers farm, he is not happy about it either, he is sick of having to trap animals that have already been trapped by someone else that thought it would be a good idea to drop them off 1000 yards from a barn full of grain, idiots..

One thing that has worked for me around the garage, barns, other buildings is I put a couple of insulators on every corner, then wired around to fence charger. Wire is a few inches off of the ground.
