Killing raccoons (NC)

I hope you recognize my high regard for yourself and what I 'perceive'. I'm a bit tipsy at the moment and may clumsily convey that.

That I find you so difficult to challenge or to disagree with is 'my underlying intent' to recognize you as a constant voice of reason.

Please accept my highest honor as such. You're a rare voice that makes me proud to be an American. Thanks for being "you" among us rabble. jon

btw, IMO 'coons are ok so far from us that we can ignore them. When they wreck our s__ and kills our pets or livestock they must be controlled where they do harm.

Maybe you two oughta get a room :D:laughing:
Just kiddin :p

The current body count is, 10 raccoons and 2 woodchucks. If I can double that, I will probably get my share of the goodies in my garden. If this doesn't work, I'll do the electric fence next year as has been suggested by others. Garden is doing great so far, hope yours is also.

Friend feed birds and has serious squirrel problem.
We'd trap and displace the critters but they'd return.

Once as a joke I spray painted one and he displaced it about 3-4 miles away in the forest.
That same 'sprayed' critter was back the next day!

His current deterrent is a CO2 powered pellet rifle. That works!

In neighboring Indiana it's illegal to transport or release a trapped nuisance animal.

I painted on a few live-trapped 'coons to teach a guy that most he'd released 1-2 mi away would be back before sunset. He then went with electric fencing, but ...

Raccoons seem to love the challenge of getting through electric fencing. What they didn't go under they climbed over. It's as though they became so used to random pokes that they ignored them at length.

He gave up on fencing when wires at 6", 12" 18" and 24" from the ground didn't keep coons out of his sweet corn.

AND, it only takes "one time" for a coon to get through the fence and into the sweet corn, and it will destroy most of the patch!

I've had it happen, so I only kill them now...

Being an animal lover but a DH, I live trap them and drop them off near a barn on a property of someone I don't particularly like...:D

All it really takes around here is my wife's 30 or so outside felines. They keep everything pretty well policed.

I have a friend who owns some greenhouses, and she has a LOT of cats living there.

A couple times a year, a racoon with come to the GH's and have cat dinners, until she traps the coon and calls a friend to come shoot it for her.

She always knows when it's happening as when she shows up in the morning, there will be "cat parts" lying around from when the coon got filled up.
