Split right on the seam of the pipe. I would have thought this seam would have been facing 180 degrees from where they installed it. Weakest part of the pipe in the highest stress area of the mount. No warranty of course. Going to take it to a local welding shop and have them re-enforce it a bit.

That is surprising. And what an inconvenient time for it to happen.

That looks *a lot* like the mount and pivot on my KK landscape rake. You'd think they'd beef up the same mount to put on a blade. You'd exert much more force on that mount with your blade than I would with my rake.

Yeah, I have the rake too, same setup.

Looks like it should be reasonably easy to fix and reinforce, maybe add a grease fitting

Not sure a replacement will be so easy to find.

You would think the bottom would of broke out instead of the top if you were pulling the blade. When I first looked at it, it reminded me of a freeze break...if water was in it and it froze.

I'd fix that defect myself and add a grease fitting too. King Cutter implements aren't what I consider heavy duty in the first place and their welding certainly is sub standard. Their welds look similar to welds on Recreational Vehicles. RV welders are mostly Fast Food restaurant transplants.

That is a darn good point.

😂 i have heard such things about RVs from other sources as well. Glad i don't own one.

I will give a plug for Modvans though. Startup making quality stuff. Modvans.com

Actually, the greatest stress is at the top of the post, not at the bottom. Whatever force is applied at the bottom has the advantage of 18-inch or so lever arm when it tries to break the top.

I do and talk about snotty welds with poor penetration, RV's have that in spades. All they use are glue guns with flux core wire. No skill involved and poor fit up too.

You more than likely broke it with the moldboard reversed and pushing backwards.
That is how I also see the force exerted to the plow and how it was damaged.

I already replaced it. My local farm store had ~20 or so in stock.

How much did it cost to replace it ?

I'm curious how you "replaced" it as there would seem to be a lot of cutting apart, replacing the bad part and then re-welding it all back together. Also seems odd that the store would stock a welded component. I obviously missed something here.

Also it doesn't seem that the damage was allowed by any defective welding on the part of King Kutter. The split tube was more than likely seam welded at the tubing mill. It's possible that it is (was) DOM tubing that would not have a seam but unlikely because DOM (Drawn Over Mandrel) tubing is very expensive compared to welded seam tubing.

I'll guess $700-800

Pull two lower pins, one top link pin, park the old blade, hook up the new, replace the three pins.

You can see the seam in his pic. It split the seam.

Maybe it was just an email with a picture while KK contacted the local store. (y)
