King Kutter bush hog lower hitch pins

I priced a 7/8” drill bit at Lowes and it is $25, and at Sears it is $22, but at TSC it is $17 (Mibro). When TSC has their grand opening I'll be back for some other stuff and I'll get one. It helps not being in a hurry, so I can prices stuff while I'm already at various stores for other things, etc.

I called King Kutter parts dept about the shear bolts and while I had them on the line I mentioned this to them. Time will tell if it makes a difference.

I have found a good hole saw can really make a big hole. I can easily cut 7/8" holes with a 1/2" drill. Go slow and use plenty of oil. You can not saw a drilled hole larger if the orginal hole is larger than 1/4" because the 1/4" pilot hole drill also pilots the saw.

With a drill press I have recently cut three 1 3/4" holes through 3/4" plate. Slow, and use oil.

Buy good hole saws. Starrett and Lennox are best. Lowe's carries Lennox. A 1 3/4" saw cost $14 at lowes. Try to buy a 1 3/4" drill bit somewhere. $200+

You would probably need a drill press to make good use of them, but when I needed a 1" drill bit about a year ago, I looked at TSC & it was about 20.00. Waited till I went to Harbor freight Tools & found a set from 9/16 through 1" in a wooden box for 21.99. I think they were made in china. Expected them to break on the first hole, but so far, have drilled many holes & they are still working. They do fit in a 1/2" chuck.
If you don't have a store, I think they started out as mail order.

Wow - Those original pins sure are high! I can't imagine than any tractor that you would mount a smaller cutter to could even use the pins that high!. It looks like they designed the mower to go behind a JD 4020!

There is a trick I've used for using a holesaw where there is an existing hole. Take a piece of scrap wood, like 1/2" plywood, and use the holesaw to cut a hole in it. Then clamp the plywood over the spot you want to holesaw, and use the hole in the wood rather than the pilot bit to keep it centered......................chim

I've used that trick at the house to enlarge a hole for a door lock when needed.

I think I first used this method to make a 7/8" hole into a 1-1/8" hole. From your profile, betcha know what that was for............chim

I have same problem with my Bush Hog brand 6' on my TC45D. You would think a 6' would work on a 45 HP tractor. Same problem, will not lift off the ground, tail wheel bumps the ground when lifted full height. Shorten the top link, mowing angle is off. I called Bush Hog and they said the same thing, lower the holes by 1 1/2 inch. Eaiser said than done.
