Utopia Texas:

Kinda hard to "buy local" when the nearest KK implement dealer is 200+ miles away,( 400 miles round trip) and is "out of stock"
My "waste of time" would be driving a full day to return the KK product for repair, and a second full day to pick up the repaired KK product.
Oh...... and plus 80 gallons (round trip twice) of gas, for my 454 powered Suburban,...... dragging my trailer.
THAT, does NOT make ANY sense to me!

I think his point was that KK is not the only implement maker. Assuming there are local dealers where you could look at what you're buying, my preference is paying a few bucks more and being able to see the equipment in the flesh and look the dealer in the eye.

That's a great quote. I love it.

The nearest "local dealer" would be over 100 miles away, and I did call several distant dealers (not just KK).
NO ONE had an 84" blade in stock.
Wanting an 84" blade to use in June, I did not want to wait until October for one to be in stock.
My preference also, would be to see the blade, .... whomever the manufacturer.
How many miles would you drive to look at a $500 blade?
There were no 84" blades!
How could I possibly look at ANY blades that did not exist?

So you have property in Fla-Ma-Nova Scotia and can't afford gasoline?
Sounds like a first world problem.

While keeping your hand on your wallet, as the dealers are trying to get all the cash they can out of it for their Name Brand items and sub par service dept . Really a 72" woods tiller selling for 3200 is that much better than an KK for 1750. I'll keep the extra in my pocket and fix my own equipment. There is not much to repairing Ag equipment if you've half a brain and some tools. If you don't then give all your money to your local dealer and hope he will cut you a break on his 65-100 phr service rates.

I think you missed my original point. You should not have to take a brand new, unused implement and immediately upon arrival start cutting, grinding and welding it back together to make it work properly.
If you buy local and have this crap happen you take it back immediately and dump it in their driveway and have them fix it at no charge.

I hear you and I'm with you on that. My dealer sold me a brand new 6' woods bush hog for 1750 knowing full well I didn't know much if anything about them. Oh he seemed as he cared what my intent was with it heck he even knew what shape my property was in. I didn't know that he sold me a light duty mower and it has sheer pins not the heavy or med duty slip clutch. So I set to mowing and guess what happens yep sheer pins break. I chalked it up to my stupidity and fixed it well 6 pins later I happen to go to his shop for something and we discuss this issue he tells me it's my fault for mowing at to fast a pace that I need to slow down. I mow in 1st for crying out loud you should have sold me a heavier duty mower, he says he didn't have any in stock at the time but I could trade it in for about half what I paid one month later. So I will chalk it up to again my stupidity and will buy my stuff somewhere else. Meanwhile he has been trying to sell me a tiller for six months and only justification why I should pay the difference is he can service it if it breaks but it (tiller) should have a six year warranty but the mower had a one year but only for the gear box only.
I'm sure there are good dealers out there that will sell you what you want and or need and stand behind there products but before you give any of them your dollars you have to do the same due diligence with them as their equipment. My comment was more directed to the poster who comment about buying from a person you could look in the eye. That and the hand shake don't mean much anymore. Best to you
