I went to use my 3054 Tuesday evening to spray, and when I walked up to it in the twilight it didn't look right, so I turned on my flashlight and what a shock, the dash, steering wheel, seat, were toast. I have a plant nursery and the crew had parked the tractor at 4:00pm and I used a different tractor to grade my driveway for 1 1/2 hours and when I parked that tractor within 20 ft. of the Kioti I didn't smell or notice anything wrong with the 3054, the plastic transmission cap even melted and poured inside. The key switch had become loose and I believe when it was parked that afternoon that the key was turned to far in the off position and the wiring shorted out, someone had suggested the glow plug coil on the dash, but I had never had the key stick in the preheat position. I am trying to order parts to fix it myself, I have posted a picture to show the damage, She will either be the PHOENIX or the MONEY PIT. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Bummer! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I take it that the tractor was out of warranty? How long had the key switch been loose? What do you think it will cost to do the repairs?

Pogo, welcome to TBN. What a shame your first post had to have this theme. I'm glad you posted about it though so that maybe others will learn that fixing a problem sooner than later can lead to avoiding damages such as you have unfortunately experienced.
The only thing I can imagine from what you've said is that since the switch was loose, the wiring was being stripped by the movement every time the tractor was started and eventually shorted out.
Maybe you can determine where it actually started and how when you begin your repairs. I hope it doesn't take much to fix it. John

Hi, the 3054 is a 1999, I have'nt received the prices on the parts yet, but I'm sure its not going to be cheap.
It has been a great little tractor so its worth fixing, it was my own fault because I had noticed the loose switch, but just didn't take the time to fix it. Sooo, no sympathy for me, just wanted to give other owners the chance to fix theirs. If someone had warned me about the possibility of a Fire, I probably would not have given it much credit. Thanks for you input, and I did post a pic.

Since one of the replies said the link was an email and didn't work, wouldn't it be just as easy to use the phone number ?

The link looked like it added a web prefix to it. The email might be

MICKAN@onlinexpress.net

All I can say is if that happened to my tractor I would be heart broke and up the creek without a paddle.
thx

I've seen that kind of damage to machines before and it was due to rats chewing the wires, shorting everything out, and cooking the rat.
What ever the cause,,,, that's a bad deal.

Yea, I noticed that too. I was refering to the thread on tractorpoint though.

Sorry Dummy, I hadn't gone all the way into that, but then discovered what you were talking about. John

No foul, almost all is fair in TBN land. Just seemed like no one else noticed the obvious about the phone #. Being non big 3 owners should make us a little thicker skinned /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif.

Funny thing about it was that I thought you had just misread the post and thought pogo had said, "The link doesn't work." I was wondering what phone number you were talking about, because I didn't see one yet.
I have a nasty habit of reading all the posts first, and then going back and checking out the links, so I didn't know until then that you were talking about Tractor Point replies, not TBN's. Oh well, isn't the first time I've screwed up, and I know for sure it won't be the last! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hello Jim,

To clarify my former E-mail; the link You posted to the other site did work, the link at that site for the tractor didn't work, but it did list their phone no., I've been busy with clean up and repairs as a result of the hurricanes, plus trying to make a living, that I hav'nt had much time to work on the kioti yet. I must admit its depressing when I do tinker with it trying to scrap off the burned plastic and paint.
Thanks again for your help with the other Kioti, I tried to call but the gentleman was not home, I will try again.

Thanks for the update. Had been wondering. I'm sure the tractor is at the top of the list which is at the bottom of the pile of things to do after those hurricanes. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

thx

I bought a 99 3054 that was already burned in exactly that way. The guy I bought it from did not know how it happened- he bought it cheap to fix it up and lost interest. I got the parts to put it back together- all easily obtained and close to $800.00. When I put it back together about the third day I used it I lost power while operating the glow plugs- turned out a terminal on the glow plug indicator had contacted the dash mounting bolt and shorted, blowing the fusible link. I insulated the terminals, replaced the fusible link and everything has been fine. Based on the state of the wiring when I got it, I suspect the original owner had bypassed the fusible link when it failed, setting the stage for a meltdown when something in the dash shorted. Be sure to check that fusible link!!! GOOD LUCK!

Hi,
Just a short Update on the 3054, I got past my depression and started working on the Kioti.
Bought a cheap ignition switch and a push button switch for the glow plugs, removed the cowlings to get to the wiring harness that was undamaged, connected starter and glow plug wires to switches, by crimping in new wire of course and cranked the tractor; It sounded great!! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif borrowed a seat from another tractor that is in dry dock and put a steering knob on the steering wheel. I used the bottom plate from an old flouresent (please forgive the spelling) fixture to make a dash plate for the key switch, wrapped duct tape in place of knobs on shifter,forward/rev. hi/low etc., I am able to use the tractor to spray with, until I get the repair parts.
Because the seal under the steering wheel was burned out and the bushing is worn it does pump out hydro. fluid while it is running but this is acceptable for now.
Almost forgot I used a 1 1/4 galv. threaded plug to replace the plastic one that melted.
Thanks again to all, will take a new pic. soon.

Gene
