Curious as to how the differential lock pedal was bent? How do you normally engage the lock? Do you just push it down when a tire starts spinning or do you stop, push it down then go?

I bought it from my brother in law never tried putting the diff lock on. But I asked him and he said step on it hard when a tire spins. Looked at the linkage bar and it’s definitely bent. Tried straightening it but the metal seems weak. When turning the actual gear shifter into transmission it’s real stiff so get why he would say stomp on it. Doesn’t seem normal. I’m going to get a new linkage bar and see the position in gear box that it should be in.

Well it’s working properly again. Will test it out in a few days but should have only messed with one thing at a time. But I played with the diff lock and did what you said again and pushed the brake and worked it several times over and over. How does the brake work on a tractor? I see it connects to the transmission. I will have to research tractor brakes. So if anyone has this problem mine was one of the two. I want to say thanks for all the quick replies and helping me through this. I attached the bent linkage to the diff lock for yall to see. Thanks again. Hope this did the trick for good.

I believe the way the dif lock works, is it won't just go in if things aren't lined up, so if you creep the petal forwards or back, it finds it's notch and goes right in; maybe 5 or 10# of pressure; not a stand on it ammount. I use mine, and will admit, it's not alway at a complete stop stop; but it's only at low speeds, and general involves backing out of a hole, that I probably shouldnt have been in....

The issue, or doubt I have; last it was used was mowing, and I'm gonna assume you didn't use the diff lock to mow; certainly should have gotten itself into lock on its own.

I could see if Rod (1) is bent (more than factory angle) that it could be partial engaged even when the peddle/lever is disengaged. That link rod (1) is a dang cheap part, and if that is bent, for the $13 or $15, I'd replace it.

If your BIL had been standing on it; it could bend that flat bar linkage. Generally, if you need to stand on it, something isn't right

Also, don't know year or hours we are dealing with, but yes, the L-N-M-N-H HST selector on mine was very stiff. As you use it, it loosens up some. If you are really needing to Yank on it; touch the peddle forward or backward, and make sure there is no pressure (ie tractor trying to roll) as you move selector lever.

I donr mean peddle forward or back while moving the selector; but if it's being stubborn, not wanting to move, let go of the handle; bump a peddle, hold the break, and try again.
