Kioti DK45SE
I own a 12 year old Kioti DK45SE, engine was run with no oil(don't get me started) looking for a used or rebuilt block...new Kioti is nearly $4k. I have been told that Daedong makes motors for many other companies. Anyone know a way to obtain a used or rebuilt DaeDong 45HP 2.2L block??

I assume you tried Google? I know there are tractor junkyards also. I assume you need more than a block, like pistons, bearings etc?

How much is damaged on the engine?

My search shows it is a Daedong 4A220LWH engine. I couldn't find anything....:(

How many hours were on the motor?

You might have to just get it rebuilt. Then at least you have a fresh motor. But can you even get parts?

A while back, a member here had an engine failure in a Kubota. He wrote a lengthy thread about replacing the engine and it was an arduous task. I can't find the thread now, so hopefully the member will respond with a link since he provided many valuable lessons learned in a very detailed thread.

Here are some major points I remember.

He found a used engine from a recycler in Kentucky. But, the engine was not as represented and he returned it and ended up having to get his credit card company involved to get a refund.

He did end up buying a new engine from Kubota. He had to destroy the old engine, even though it may have been rebuildable due to emissions rules.

Good luck.

If he was needing a Kubota engine, he wouldn't have a problem, although even being everywhere, they still command a high price used.

I believe this is the thread.

Bobcat tractor engines of that year( CT 445) are identical and were the same until the new ones came out. Wiring might be a bit different. A good re builder should be able to find or machine sleeves

There are aftermarket companies that make sleeves. "LA Sleeve" is one that I've used for motorcycle engine rebuilds. A good rebuilder should know of more.

For the Cumins A series engines in Bransons there are a lot of Chinese parts available. It's not easy to find the right numbers as the Branson numbers don't match the ones the Chinese use, and some parts may not be as good quality as you'd get from the OEM. But they can be found with enough digging. I don't know if the same is true for the engines in Kiotis but it may be worth a look at alibaba.

$4k for a new engine might be your best deal, especially considering the time and hassle involved in the other routes.

I was thinking the same thing. Dunno about anyone else here, but I have never had good experiences with engine rebuilders. The couple times I've used them, corners seem to have been cut, and they didn't stand up well. Warranties are generally skimpy and full of loopholes, never mind all the work to remove the engine again.

Even replacing the engine with a new one might not be cost-effective unless you have a strong emotional attachment to this particular tractor. Between the cost of the engine, the not-insignificant shipping costs and the hassle of disassembling the tractor to do the actual swap, you might just be better off with a (well taken care of) used tractor.

And the elephant in the room is we all want to know how the engine was run out of oil.

+1 on that. I say junk the bomb and pony up for a new one (and don't forget to check the oil this time).........

Worthington tractor is a big used tractor parts company with multiple locations not sure if they would have a complete used engine or block but might be worth a call just to an idea on price used vs new.

Have rebuilt one tractor engine and was tough decision do you rebuild with over 8,000 hrs on tractor or replace with lower hours used of unknown condition.

This was in frame rebuild so less labor than engine swap.

Good luck on your decision
