Kioti Blown engine

Maybe bite the bullet on the new one and over time try and rebuild the old one, selling it to pay for the new one.

The Kioti 2.2 liter engine does not have sleeves like a traditional tractor engine. The engine is similar to an automotive engine in that everything is cast as one piece. I looked into rebuilding my 2.2 liter and I was told by the Kioti dealer that these engines were not designed to be rebuilt and a new engine is the only viable option. That is why Kioti does not sell over sized pistons for a re-bore or any bearings for grinding a crank.

There are aftermarket companies that make sleeves. "LA Sleeve" is one that I've used for motorcycle engine rebuilds. A good rebuilder should know of more.

This is an interesting thought. There arent replaceable sleeves in this Kioti engine but I too have used LA Sleeve to reline ( with Nikasil) a non sleeved motorcycle cylinder. There are several companies in the U.S. that offer similar services. Might be worth making a couple of calls and determine if this is an option?

MasterMike. I find that utilizing the parts books to ID parts, then reverse engineering the other applications it is used in is the best way to find answers. The one site sponsor has some Kioti Parts books online.

Looking at the DK45SE engine block I see it is a parent bore engine aka sleeveless. This means you would have to have a machine shop hone it out and put in oversized pistons if they are even available, which they are not. You might be able to have a custom repair sleeve made, have the block bored out, and then reassemble, but if the water passages are too close you could end up with an worthless block and lots of machine shop time.

So we are stuck finding a new engine. There are three cylinder block assemblies used with this engine, however it appears that they all have been superseded by E6340-A0012.

Your crankshaft will also need to be examined and turned down if scratched, however it appears Kioti does not offer undersized rod and main bearings, so you would have to get a new crank.

Remember, you will need a new block, pistons, piston rings, New piston pin bushings, main and rod bearings, gaskets for everything mounted to the block. Due to oil starvation / metal contamination a new oil pump is a good idea too. Your cost for just the block is about to double if you do the work yourself. If you hire the work out it might not be economically feasible, compared to replacement cost of the machine.

What does the tag on the engine say it is? Worst case scenario there are some DK45 at salvage yards and it might be worth looking into to see if a DK45 engine will fit in a DK45SE.

There are some rumblings on the internet about the Daedong 4A220 being the same as the Kubota V2203 and might be worth investigating.

Not likely. I have never heard of Kubota issuing licenses to build their products. Even finding the right engine for a different application or OEM can result in unexpected complications and grief!

There's usually enough meat in most cast iron engines to bore out up to 1mm. The water jackets and oil galleys would have to be dangerously thin or close to the bore to prevent that. You'd need OS pistons of course. Companies that make pistons have catalogs. You might be able to find a match. There's also custom but that's going to run the price up.

How bad is the cylinder damage? If it's not bad it could be honed and still be within spec. I don't know about diesels but with two strokes a low oil seizure often results in aluminum from the piston being deposited on the cylinder. That can be removed carefully with acid.

Low oil often damages the plain bearings before the pistons or cylinders. If they are all replaceable shell bearings rather than bored in the block or head that's good. But the crank or camshaft's bearing surfaces might be too damaged to be used.

We have a few wreckers. Lately though, people don't like the prices. Teeswater Agro Parts is another close by.

I never hear the US guys talk much about wreckers down there.

Curiously, other than a blown engine (which wouldn't help the OP) what would cause a tractor to be junked, especially a relatively modern one like a DK45?

Fire or wreck of some sort I guess. Saw a fire damged almost new Kioti at auction a few weeks ago. Just the cab burned, one rear tire slightly singed (sp?).

Hi. Not sure if this is hi-jacking MasterMikes thread, but we may be in the same/similar wagon. I just bought a 2005ish DK45S with engine problems. Daedong 4A220LXB. This purchase is probably not the best decision I have ever made, but definitely not the worst. So... the back story on this machine is it came off a chicken farm in NC and was purchased by previous owner for the loader which turns out would not fit his model Kubota. Machine has just over 3K hours according to proof meter. Does meter work??? Who knows at this point. Woods 1016 loader with quick attach bucket, 4X4, etc. Machine is covered in chicken manure so if one thing is true it is that this did indeed come out of chicken house. Supposedly sold as not running when he bought it, but PO did get it started. When I went to look at the machine we did start it up and it did not sound too horrible. Seems that cylinder #4 is not lighting off, and there is a knocking sound, and white smoke. So i think there is potential for a cracked piston on #4 and low compression the cause of white smoke (unburned diesel). Not sure but someone may have been making this engine snort ether. Not sure where I will start my diagnostics on this thing. May try to do a compression test on #4 and see if that cylinder is indeed bad. Could be a problem injector or something with the pump plunger on that cylinder. Not knowing anything about this heap I will probably pull the oil pan and look for metal and inspect rod & main bearings also. Tractor also has other issues.... loader control is a joystick that uses two cables going down to control valve on transmission, something is boogered up with the cables???, chicken farmer robbed the radiator off before selling it to PO so has an old Ford 9N radiator rigged in it by PO. Head light assembly missing. Starter dropping out when trying to start so not sure if starter solenoid going bad or if PO's battery was too weak to keep it held in. Ya, so got my work cut out on this one. But myself just like MasterMike is finding out there is not a whole lot of info. out there on Daedong, Kioti engines for these machines. Seems like they would fit into the "Grey Market" tractor segment without much North American support. I'm sure you can go to the dealer for your needs and pay out the waazoo for OEM parts and service. I'm not gonna do this unless necessary. The Kioti brand and other rebrands if any of this same machine is such a small segment of the compact tractor market that identifying and finding used or aftermarket parts for your model is difficult. I'm sure there out there, but where??? I will also look into the possible compatibility of Kubota engine parts for this type. My 1st move will be to get an operator, shop, and parts manual for this model. So fingers crossed hopefully this machine can be fixed without too many headaches and too much $$$. More to come on my new to me piece of Kioti DK45S. P.S. -- How do you insert pics in the post??? (Insert Image Icon did nothing???)

Something that may or may not be worth mentioning is the Cub Cadet 8454 was the same machine as DK45's. There are parts diagrams available on Messick's website.

Hassle free fix would be to put a new one in. May be more than a rebuilt one but that may not work out either
