If you've never used it how would you know what it can do? It's the same as someone not knowing the benefits of draft control on a 3 pt. hitch. Just because you've never used doesn't mean it isn't a very useful feature to have. You didn't even know your machines have it. It clearly lists it on the 1845C.

I have tried on my tractor several times.
I personally saw no benefit.
If you feel its a benefit by all means use it.
I don't.

Sorry but you didn't even know you had it on your skid steers. On a skid steer one of the things you can do is back blade with the bucket dumped at an angle and roll your bucket up at the same time and feather material out perfectly. Manufacturers put it on a machine for a reason. Do you think Cat, JD, Case, Komatsu, Bobcat and all the other manufacturers just put it on machines as a gimmick. For some applications it does the best job and makes it easier.

I guess that not everyone operates equipment the same. I do like to use the float feature to "smoothy up" an area real quick so I can keep traveling over it. Like maybe between trucks for example. I can't see actually trying to make grade with the bucket float. I have however seen guys (as Arc weld mentioned) build small fills with a skid steer by dumping and back dragging with he bucket. I do have to say though, I'm no hand on a skid steer. You know, geographical area has something to do with the equipment and equipment features a guy might use. For example in Southern California I have had dozer operators come out on a job site that didn't know what a "slope board" was. These guys were otherwise fairly decent operators. It's just that they had just moved into the area, and where they were from was all flat land. The minimal sloping that they may have needed to do, they did by side hilling (they just sat on the slope and cut it with the dozer blade). My point is that not everyone, every where, does everything in exactly the same way.

I did not know the 1845C had float because I never had a use for it so I never tried.
I tried to find float on the our 2016 Case SR 240 today.
If it has float I sure couldn't find it.
I'll stick with what works for me the past 20 years of grading with a skid steer. Thanks

Doing contouring and slopes is another good use for float. It lets the bucket follow the ground with an even pressure without scraping the high spots off or missing lower spots. reading the owners manual is never a bad idea.
