My bucket creeps down and has to be constantly raised back up to keep from spilling. It doesn't seem to be the cylinder leaking, but seems to be inside the control valve. On the side of the control valve there is a plug with an allen wrench socket. Is this pug a rmovable shuttle or some kind of control? Can I safely remove the plug?

If the control valve is at fault only solution is a complete new valve assembly.

That could be the power beyond port. Are there any letters cast into the valve body next to the plug?

A picture would be worth a thousand words. :D

The blue wire on the top hose goes to the bucket. The plug I am asking about is just above the hose with the blue wire around it. there is another such plug below the other hose just below the blue wired one. The picture is oriented like it seems, the control lever is to the left of the picture.

pretty sure those Hex plugs are alternative inlet and outlet ports, would have nothing to do with any loader or bucket drift problem. Inspect your control closely, might be the spool is not returning to complete neutral.
What makes you so sure it isn't by-passing oil in one or both bucket cylinders. On a bucket cylinder with the rod end pressure supporting the load, internal leakage in the cylinder can/will allow it to drift out.

What would be the test to make to prove whether the cylinders are leaking or not? thanks, Don

lift the bucket a bit and disconnect the fittings.

And that would be the upper connections only? What can I expect to happen when I raise the bucket a bit and disconnect the upper hoses? Should the engine be turned off before disconnecting the hoses from the cylinders? ..................Don

yes turn it off. trying to separate the cylinders from the joy stick to see which is leaking.

I sure hope you have quick disconnect fittings on the hoses to the curl cylinders.

Fill the bucket first, then raise the loader about half way. If the bucket creeps down with the hoses disconnected, and there are no leaks, then the cylinder seals are leaking.

Thanks to all for the timely info. I was able to get one of the quick disconnects loose and watch the bucket gradually curl down. I called a hydraulic mechanic and relayed the way it acted and he says sounds like the cylinders are leaking internally. He is going to repair the cylinders this week. thanks again, Don

I don't think one hose disconnected is a good test. The other hose is still connected to what might be a leaky spool in the valve.

Do you know if it was the extend or retract hose?

OK I have quick diconnects, but could only get the one loose that goes to the top of the cylinders, which would be the extender side.
