ok, heres the dimensions

solid rod is 3/8" steel stock, solid. I got mine from Home depot item # 48930

the hollow rod used to make the connector is 1/2" outer dimension with 1/16" thick wall. leaving the inside just shy of 3/8" (.375). Home Depot part # 35170.
I had to run mine thru drill press to make it a scosch bigger opening so it would readily slip over the tractors shaft without scarring the paint. Then i tack welded the pieces together after pushing the connector sleeve 1/2 way onto the solid shaft.

This unit can now slip on and off as i need it.

Cool beans!! Thanks for the info. That will save me a LOT of trial and error! I appreciate it.

Make the shaft a tad long then cut to fit when your seated to get a good position.

Looking at your pics, I see you have the fronts chained up, do you do the rears as well?
This will be my first winter with my new tractor coming up.

i have to chain up fronts and rears to plow snow. Without the front chains, the front end drifted as i swiveled the plow.

I dont need chains for the snow blower, but having them doesnt hurt anything.

I went to Home Depot today and bought the parts listed above to make the extension. Now all I need is for my grapple to come in so the dealer can run the hydraulic lines from one of the rear remotes to the front. Then they can deliver the tractor, and I can then start the process of making and fitting the extension.

Thanks again to grsthegreat for the great tip and the part numbers. That saved me a lot of trial and error.

Thanks. Your thread gave me some new ideas since I don't have a welder. I may just try to dimple the tube & rod combo with a punch after assembly to try to secure it. Or use JB Weld as someone suggested.

On second thought, this might be an excuse . . . err . . . reason to buy that welder I've been wanting. ;)

Well it is pretty small stuff to be your first welding project..Kind of tedious. I TIG welded it. I am pretty sure that the center-punch trick would work, or do both, put some JB weld on the rod, get it in place and hit it a couple of licks with a center-punch on a good anvil of some kind. Of course you could braze it too.

i simply used my wire feed welder. The metal was a bit thin, but it did a great job.

I have no idea how to tig weld.

Theres no force what so ever on it. Im sure epoxy or jb weld would work fine.
