I too have a KK brush hog that I had lift height problems with.
I lowered the pins by 4.5 inch's and also installed a adjustable lift arm on the other side as well this gave me more adjustment latitude . It solved my problem with the hog as well as giving me more adjustment with other atachments as well. Dee

Dee, from what I've read here it's a design flaw. I believe a lot of folks have solved it by expanding lower bolt holes to the proper size and using those. I'm sure if you use the search feature here you'll find it talked to death in some other posts. I hope this helps.

I hate to risk giving the wrong information about a competitors product, but since no one from KK has addressed this point, I will try to clear something up. Many times, designers of rotary cutters have difficulty keeping the PTO from coming into contact with the front of the deck when the cutter is fully raised. In addition, the liability of having spinning blades at a height where they may come into contact with humans is not desireable. Placing the lift pins a height such as KK uses, minimizes these problems and makes a very useable implement.

If you feel the need to lower your lift pins you might keep these criteria in mind. If someone from KK reads this and feels I am all wet, please feel free to correct me, as I would hate to misrepresent the facts, especially in someone elses product.

Hmmmmm "makes a very useable implement"----nope----with most small compacts the KK pin placement results in a very UNuseable implement. It is a design flaw, actually, more likely it is "it's worked that way for a hundred years so why change now mentality" . J

You bring up a good point, Jim. I have a Howse 6' rotary cutter on my JD 950. It raises the cutter so high, the PTO shaft hits the front edge of the cutter deck. The first time I did it, my adjustable top link had backed off a little and I raised the cutter and didn't realize it was hitting until I looked back and saw the deck had partially shredded the plastic protective PTO shaft cover. /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif The second time I did it, well I just wasn't paying attention. /w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif With the top link properly adjusted the cutter leaves the ground well before it hits the shaft, so I just have to watch what I am doing.

I have seen the discussion on the pins and compacts with the KK. Since I already purchased the cutter, and was waiting for the tractor to arrive, it had me a little concerned. While I haven't mounted the cutter yet, I did take a good look at the lift arms last night and took some measurements. From what I can see, I don't think I will have any problem. In the current installed position, I measured 17" from the ball to the ground, with it is set all the way down. This default postion looks like it it is closest to the highest position, but with the adjusting arms, and multiple holes in the lift arms, the level of adjustability seems great.

Would I be correct, that this issue is only with the smaller compacts? Did they shrink some of the dimensions down from the older cat 1 3pt specs? If so, KK should either come out with a line specificly for the smaller compacts, along with the older style, or come up with a cost effective way to handle both. Having the larger holes in the lower position, to swap pins, is probably a good start, but I am sure there are other things they could take the time and design in.

John, the dimension that has been "shrunk" as you ask is the tire diameter. The smaller compacts have smaller tires which mean the unit sits lower and has a lower PTO output, a lower lift arms etc. The cutter pin location by KK and most other companies and many other 3-point implements are two high to operate correctly with the smaller tractors. I have no problems with my lowered pins with the PTO shaft hitting the cutter and I now get plenty of lift to raise it over obstacles. It would be nice to lower the top link also for easier adjustment but it is acceptable as it is now. J

I use a 6' KK rotary cutter on a JD4700 with industrial tires and have no problems with the factory pin height on the mower.

I got some good help on this very subject just a week or two ago. I put two new pins in the lower bolt holes (facing in) and now have no problem with it digging in when I cross my creek and start up the other side. Prior to that I had everything on the tractor (B7500) adjusted for maximum lift. The Bush Hog RFM never dug in because the pins are (guessing) about 4-6 in. lower than the KKs stock pins. It makes it nice for lowering it onto stuff you want to hog, also. Maybe manufacturers should start shipping the pins loose and giving us a couple sets of holes to choose from.

I recently bought a KK 5 ft cutter. I have not had any problems with lift height or hook up using my NH 33D. I only wish i had some chain guards for it, they're on my to do list.
