Knife shanks for Landpride box blade

Jeff - Thanks
I want cut deep slits for better water distribution. I flood irrigate.

Cutting slits is what a Field Cultivator does.
Tines, which are the Field Cultivator part moving vertically through the dirt, are 1/2" wide, which is why tines need spring-protection.

After a soaking rain slits are entirely closed and you cannot tell the pasture has been aerated.

Did you open the TBN ARCHIVE LINK?

I just stumbled on this.
(1) 17" Ridged Coulter w/ Curved Shank, & Adjustable Spindle
Sent them an email for information. Price is a bit much but might work.

Otherwise I will run one of the existing shanks down to my local welder/fabricator and see what they can do or think up.

I think you will share OOSIK's non-experience in Post #2. You cannot force round discs to penetrate, round discs just roll. You need angled shanks that resist, so they "suck" (using plow terminology) into soil from forward motion of tractor.

Heavy plow coulters only penetrate 3/4".

Freight from PA to CO may be a bit much too.

I have a Wunderbar Tool Bar Cultivator from Woodward Crossing and can recommend them for excellent customer service. A lot of Woodward's hardware is imported. The Wunderbar from Italy.

Yes the link was informative. I rented something similar to this that was called a sub spoiler at the rental place. I chewed up the sod a lot as it was not heavy enough to dig down. My box ripper teeth have the same tip width and will dig in, but again the blunt shank really ripped up the sod. Still looking at options.
Thanks

The tapered beam on a Subsoiler is considerably wider than 1/2", more like 1/2" at the tapered front/entry and 1-1/2" at the rear, which is required for brute strength, given what Subsoilers are subjected to. A single shank Subsoiler weighs around 115 pounds.

The chisel point on a Field Cultivator passes through soil in a horizontal orientation, again distinct from a Subsoiler. A five shank Field Cultivator weighs around 115 pounds.

"Similar" is NOT how I would describe a Subsoiler relative to a Field Cultivator.

I am not trying to belabor the point but I have considerable history with my Field Cultivator and some history with my ETA Subsoiler, which I mount only infrequently.

A Subsoiler is a PRIMARY TILLAGE implement. A Field Cultivator is a SECONDARY TILLAGE implement.

There are other SECONDARY TILLAGE implements sold for aerating pasture. As 'others' are not spring-protected they have to be built heavy and disturb the grass more than a Field Cultivator. It is possible, however, that these scarifier shanks may fit your Box Blade and be better than the thick, blunt, OEM Box Blade scarifiers. Note there is a certain curve to these shanks, absent your OEM Box Blade shanks.

You set "dig" on a Subsoiler in GOOD condition by adjusting the Top Link.

Sometimes the Lifting Rod stirrups have to be moved to lower pair of holes to set implements lower.

Look for a "straw crimper" which has flat disks like these:

This Land Pride attachment looks perfect for what you want. Minimal soil disturbance and with the water tanks, lots of weight can be added OR lots of concrete blocks could be put on where the water tanks are now mounted. Likely lots cheaper than a field cultivator too.

My five shank 'Dirt Dog' Field Cultivator was $835 new, in April 2015.

One thing for sure, those notched discs on the Land Pride Straw Crimper are narrower than 1/2".

I may be able to drill my existing shanks and add the disks shown - looking into that. I was thinking of using wavy colters to get just a bit more width on the slots when they are cut.
