Knock, Knock...

Paul,

I had trouble with my New Holland doing the same thing. I did lose power though. I had crud and water in my site glass. Even after three or four tanks I could tell there was something wrong yet so I continued to put conditioner in the fuel. Eventually got rid of the moisture.

I would be checking how the water got into your tank. There are only a few ways it could happen. A dealer could have gotten a bad batch or it could be condensate from weather changes.
In any event, I use diesel fuel conditioner I buy from the dealer. The cost might be cheaper elsewhere but it by buying it from my dealer it gives me a chance to look at the new equipment as well as ask "dumb" questions. If memory serves I use an eighth of a cup of conditioner to five gallons of fuel. A pint of conditioner treats 100 gallons of fuel.
If you still have water problems you could look at adding a water/fuel separator. West marine, for example, sells these separators through online or thru their retail outlets.

Embarrasing???
Heck, I'm awfully impressed that you solved it yourself. As for the water in the tank, I use a funnel from Gemplers that has an ultrafine screen. I guess it is supposed to catch water droplets. That, and keeping your tank full, should keep this from happening again.

I use a funnel like rogue uses. It is called a "Mr Funnel" (comes on 3 sizes). It traps all of the water in a sump and prevents it from entering the tank. I was skeptical at first but I tested it and it blocked the water. Seems to be a good product. Mr Funnel

Which size Mr. Funnel did you get?

Does it balance OK in the tank opening?

This past weekend was extremely soggy up here. My weather station recorded a 2.5"/hour rainfall Friday evening and Saturday was pretty much .5"/hour all day long. I had taken it out on Saturday in the rain to pull out some ancient remnants of a barbed wire fence. Sunday was a bit better - it only rained late in the afternoon. I managed to till the garden and to pull out some small alders from my field.

Not sure how the water could have gotten into the fuel system. I could understand if some made it through the air cleaner. Perhaps the rainy weekend was just coincidental and I had some bad fuel. I'll add some conditioner - I have some Shell Rotella that I throw into the Jetta now and again.

BTW, daylight robbery on the fuel filter - 19$.

My funnel is the large (8.75 inch), standard model (bought it over a year ago). It fits the BX perfectly (see picture).

I did have an accident with it two weekends ago. I was dumping a 5 gal. can of diesel and an air pocket developed in the tank causing diesel fuel to belch over me and the tractor. My wife washed my jeans 4 times and they still smell like diesel. Caused me to wash the tractor and it looks like a new machine again!

Now you have a pair of " tractor drivin' " jeans. Spill some on a shirt and you will have a matching outfit /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I have a set of clothes that have fuel and grease stains that I launder separately and use exclusively for tractor work.

After doing the 50 hour deal on my bx2200 I had diesel, Ultra UDT and oil on both my jeans and t-shirt.....I made a slight error in judgement by putting my clothes into the regular wash hamper. My wife now has some of her clothes that smell strangley like my tractor driving outfit. Hopefully the smell will wash out before she finds out what really happened....Hey I didn't spill much what with all the fluids that got changed. There is an upside to everything! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
