Re: known problems with jd4100 hst I should know a

I have a JD4000 series brochure here in front of me. On the back it says, "The 4200 through 4700 Tractors were designed and are assembeld at our factory in Agusta, Georgia."

I checked out the Deere website. Indeed under specs, it lists Japan as the "country of origin". It is interesting how the JD sales people don't at least mention this fact.

I have a 4100HST with 54" mid mower and 410FEL. It has worked great. Use it to mow about 1.5A and used it to help build a 30x40x14' pole barn. Made a custom boom pole/fork attachment for the FEL. Placed all the 6x6 poles and set all the trusses with it. I would suggest counter weight for the rear or in the tires. For simple use I have a set 70lb each wheel weights from my old Case 444 (good tractor). For any real loader work I have a JD counter weight box filled with portland concrete. I am running turf tires and have never got it stuck without being able to get it out between the 4wheel drive and rear dif lock. The only problems I have had is with the dealer.

Great to hear good news from you all on the 4100, thanks for responding. I would love to hear more about the 6x6 pole attachment you made, even with an attached image if possible. I need to do the same thing in a couple months, am designing it now. My tallest poles will be 18 feet long (only two if these to handle), then 16s and 14s and 12s. I am presently thinking about a six-foot gin pole bolted to the bucket, and chain hanging from it. This should get the reach i need. I am figuring six and a half feet of loader reach and six feet of pole, should get me safely above the CG of the tallest poles. Any input, comments welcome.

I've had a 4100 for two yers with most all accessories. It's been a great tractor. As far as manufacturing/assembly - all 4000 series are partially if not mostly manufactured by Yanmar - particularly engine/trans/rear-end. Final assembly is doen in August, GA. We've toured the factory and got a glimpse of the "10" series in the product development stage. The 4100 is mostly manfactured and assembled by Yanmar, but finished in Augusta, GA. The 4100 is NOT a Yanmar painted green but a John Deere tractor manufactured for John Deere by Yanmar as are most JD Compact engines including those in the 4000 series and the 790/990. If you want a factory tour - call ahead - they were very nice and took time to take just my family through at a pre-arranged time (don't just show up at the factory).
