Chains Knucklehead Needs Tire Chains!

Congrats Dave,

All of us were pullin for ya!!!

Glad to hear the bota is back where its dry and warm.

I watched a neighbor (several years ago) try to make it over a section of a snow drift 4 or 5 feet deep with his White Field Boss (tried to save a few minutes by not using the field road). I tried to tell him it was too deep but he thought with enough speed, he could get through it. I've never seen (in person) a tractor as stuck as he was. All four wheels sitting there spinning and him not moving in inch. I had almost gotten stuck in the same place two weeks earlier with much less snow with a case DC with field chains.

He and his cousin spent the better part of a day doing solid digging. They were beat, but finally they got it loose. He hasn't tried that again.

The only downside to your experience is if you (and the rest of us) didn't learn something from it.

The chains (and some rear Ballast) will keep your baby goin'

DAVE: that orange kubota sure did look nice out in the woods. glad u got it back home and dry. can feel for your anguish, i love my kubota also. i use R4 tires also, but do not have any hills to contend with, just remember! no matter what u put on it, u can still get it stuck in the right conditions.

Everyone- I found a nice set of chains and a possable source for those of you that can only find the ladder style. From Peerless Chain Co. http://www.peerlesschain.com/ I got a set of "Duo-Trac" chains, which has a box pattern in the tread center. Paid $206 for the pair from a local heavy construction supply shop. They fit my tires and needed no alterations. However, if you have a B2710 or 2910 with R4 tires you will have a clearance issue. I found this out as soon as I put them on! They will rub the inside of your fenders. My dealer had forgotten about this issue (only a problem with R4's, not turfs or R1's according to him) and is getting me a set of spacers. Fortunately, I only scuffed the paint a little and I think a slightly wider stance in the rear is good, especially given the slopes I have.

Hope this info gives some of you alternatives to ladder style chains. I spoke to two chain suppliers and both confirmed what Boondox(?) said about the ladder style sort of getting lost in R1 and R4 tires.

I borrowed a digital camcorder again!

Dave
