Kohler Command Pro 25 blowing smoke at start up

another sign of guides is ... if you let it sit for awhile ( 30 mins or so ) and start it back up and it blows blue smoke, you've got guide problems

if you don't get any smoke restarting after letting it sit ... it is probably rings

both are moot at this point ... to fix either problem will require a tear down and rebuild anyway ....

so just keep the oil level up , change it at regular intervals , and keep using it till you are ready to do a proper fix .....
(or just keep your eyes open for another good motor that will pop up sometime, )

After doing some research, worn valve guides are the probable cause of the blue smoke at start up.

The zero turn has 850 hours on it.

With 850 hours, most likely the oil is seeping past the rings on the vertical shaft engine when it sets, and is getting burned off when you start it. Unless it is using a fair amount of oil during use, or starts smoking continuously I wouldn't worry about it.
