Komatsu D21 gray market?

 / Komatsu D21 gray market? #11
A grey market machine is a machine that was not intended for the U.S. marketplace. That difference can be as simple as warning sticker and guage differences to major design differences such as pumps and different bearing sizes on components.

The big problem with this is usually the USA dealer doesn't have any information on these machines and frankly doesn't want to know as that machine coulda been a USA machine sold by him if you hadn't bought the import.

Then again, they had a job to get done as fast as possible while not getting shot. Much bigger incentive than nag factor to finish the honey-do list.

In Canada Komatsu has been around in various different sizes for at least 30 + years. No first hand knowledge but think they are a good machine as one will see them on construction sites.

Gotcha... thanks. How do they get here usually? (The machines)

Folks import them, usually from Japan, (I think, I'm totally ignorant on asian languages) Usually only smaller machines that will fit in a shipping container. There was a local around here in central AR that sold them for a time. He didn't have any dozers bigger than a D3 Cat as bigger ones wouldn't fit in a container he said. I dunno if he's still in business or not but I see imports pretty regular around.

Clues are asian language as advertising. A regular one is a blue round sticker with a hard had wearing smiley face, usually with some asian language around the rim. I think it's a sticker for a rental company.
Foreign language warning stickers/guages are another clue.

I see... thank you, Scott.

Didn't mean to drag this thread too far off topic... so back to point. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Boy have I been slacking.. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif If anyone here has any questions on gray market D21's contact me anytime. I personally import these AWESOME machines and parts are not a problem. Have all the manuals and can help you with parts if you need.

I do get big machines sometimes as well but they don't always fit in a container. Well unless you want to have it shipped in pieces. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Darin,

Kind of off topic but about the D21-P6:

Ever see one that runs faster in reverse than in forward??

Mine is doing that now and am waiting for the service manuals to come in to try to repair the feature. :p

I have a Komatsu D20. The D20 is a regular gear shift instead of shuttle shift like the D21. I have had mine for 2 years and it has been great. I have some glitch with the left side. The left side won't steer until it gets warmed up. I am going to have to go into it some time when I have some down time. Anyway, I have pushed many smaller trees down with it. The size of tree it will push down is dependent on the type of tree. On some I can raise the blade up as high as it will go and the tree will go right over. Some I have to dig away some from the roots and then try to get the blade under the tree. I would have preferred a D3 of maybe a JD450, but I just couldn't afford it. I do know that all the trees I have cleared and dirt I have moved could not have been done with my tractor.
