I wondered what it is for...

I removed the valve assembly to add a third slice. The existing two slices control a FEL, the first is for a single acting ram (lift) and the second is for the double acting ram (curl).
Each slice has a rotary control as well as the lever but I don't know what it does, I was told that it may allow the valve to be switched between double acting and single acting operation but I don't know if that is true or which way to turn the knob for which setting.
There is no power beyond connector and the tractor (MF250) has open centre hydraulics, so I am concerned that the setting of these rotary knobs is important.
In the picture there are extension rods on the lever and rotary knob.
Any help appreciated.
