Krpan forestry winch

Given the lift capacity of your tractor the Farmi 290 or 30r is a better fit than the Krpan.
Krpan 3.5h weighs 589 # with 230 feet of 8mm wire rope.

The Farmi 30R weighs 450# with 165 feet of wire rope. $3675 not including shipping from NY.

Perhaps you will get lucky and a Farmi 290 will show up in your area.

Yo 47, another familiar name! Yeah these things are just not common around here like I'm led to believe is the case in New England and eastern Canada. As far as I can tell, the lone dealer of any make here in this state has closed. Thanks for the Farmi info. Probably stuck with buying new-these things ain't around here. According to that NY dealer, they ain't available period until end of summer.

Give these guys a call
They are in Irma Wisconsin
They carry Igland

3501 is 440 lbs plus cable weight and is for tractors 30hp and up.
Might be still too big for yours but HP recommendations is for getting the most “use” out of the winch’s ability.
A 25 HP can still run it, but just not as well.

Someone here might be able to correct me on that

Uniforest has a similar design to Krpan: they both have automatic brakes that engage wen you stop pulling and which you release to spool out cable. And come with 230' of cable. That was a factor in my selection as my forest is steep and I'm limited for where I can get the tractor.

Either the 30M or 35M would be appropriate for your tractor given the HP. They're only a few hundred $$ apart.

There are two importers in the US: Hud-son in the east and Maxx Forestry in Colorado. Hud-son's web site shows a bunch of dealers almost all in the eastern half of the country.

Thanks north and Eric. I'm firmly in the (member here) Gordon Gould camp regarding winch sizing-that winch capacity ratings actually refer to the unit's clutch strength, and that it is the tractor's pto that actually determines "winching power", and that furthermore, there are advantages to keeping things small if possible. Appreciate the note about the Uniforest 30M. That's what I'm talking about-a simple winch that won't create new issues by being oversized for the tractor. Didn't know of that model.

I believe even my 24.5 HP (hee hee) machine will pull logs to my heart's content.

You could get the Igland 2501 as well. It works with tractors with 15 hp and above and you can find it here https://nosted.com/na/igland-2501 On that page they show all their NA dealers. I own a 3501 which I got for a great deal. I still have not used it yet and am hoping to this summer.

Hi again Rob. If not considered bad form here on the forum, and if you wouldn't mind telling, what was the price on your winch. I have reached out to them.

Slightly wondering about fixed fairlead on top pulley, how that works out. Doesn't look like it can swivel. Maybe wrong about that.

I'll second the recommendation for the Igland, I have the 3501, I see it's in-stock for $2,800 in St Johnsbury Vt. Great people. I paid less than $2K 5 years ago.

I have to look up the price I paid and I will try to do that tomorrow. I believe it was below $3k and it came with so many chains etc. I will get you all the details. I know that the Igland was less money than the Norse from the place I bought it in NH.

Here are some good links to videos of people running the Norse/Igland winches. There is also a forum link that is worth looking through. There is a pulley that swivels but you can also pull from the top of course there is no external pulley there.

Hi JJT. Did you have a specific place in mind? Just looked at three different Vermont vendors, none of whom go down to the size of unit I'm after. All list only larger, 3501 and up.

Sent you a private message with the details, I think vendor specifics are frowned upon in the open forum.

Thought I'd already replied to this, but anyway, contacted them-no winches in stock, no idea if or when....

Same story everywhere I've checked, from Massachusetts to Colorado-no winches in stock, especially smaller ones like I need. Not a one.

In July of 2020, I paid $2900 with everything and that included:

1, Igland 3501 winch with PTO shaft, 165' of 10 mm cable, 3 chokers and 3 sliders - $2,645.00
1, 5" diameter sheave - $55.00
1, Igland self releasing sheave - $200.00

Total $2,900.00
No sales tax

If you pay by check the shipping was free with a commercial loading dock delivery address which I had. It shipped from NH to NJ.

I had to edit this a few times so that I would get it all correct. I am guessing with our government induced inflation the price would be more now and there is probably a long lead time as well. I cannot wait until our government finally follows what more than 10 countries have done now and that is to drop all this mandate/face mask/vaccine etc. I can't wait until they remove the face mask stuff on public transport. They have now dropped it on school buses. I don't get the logic because there is none, just like there is no science, even when they say there is.

I hope that you can find a winch sooner than later and that you will not have to pay an arm and a leg for it.

Rob

P.S. I was quoted in June of 2018 a price of $2,595.00 for the 3501 with everything the same minus the 2 sheaves. So the price had not changed that much in 2 years time but of course that was without the covid lockdowns as well.

Thanks Rob, good to know. Just no winches of type I need-in any paint job-available at this time.

Maxx Forestry had Uniforest 35Ms as of last summer when I bought one from them. Hud-Son had them too. I don't know if Maxx normally sells to individuals but you can call them and ask, and ask who their dealers are so you can call and check with them.

They may distribute other brands as well.

Thanks Eric. Maxx has nothing

A lot of discussion a while back about how hard it was to find used winches. I just happened to see this in CL. It's in North East VT - Right off Rte 91

I'm amazed the CL posting is still up.... I figured that would sell in a heartbeat.
