Tim,
I ordered and replaced all the waterpump/radiator hoses while I had everything apart. As I recall, and its fuzzy, it was an easy weekend project, and i have a loader frame in the way. Depending on where you live, you might tackle a block heater as well at the same time. That is real handy when the temp drops to zero minus.

Marty,

Thanks for that info.

I am in Basltimore and extreme cold isn't a regular factor, plus I keep my Bota in the Garage.

I have seen some 40 Amp Alternators on fleabay for slightly more than $100.

They claim to be compatible with my B2150, so I may go ahead and order from ebay.

I'll give Ronnie at TractorSmart a call and see what the cost will be for the other parts necessary.

And from what I can tell.... the OEM Alternator only puts out 14-15 Amps. A far cry from the 40 Amps the upgraded Alternator would put out.

The OEM "may" allow me to put on some LED lights at 2 AMPS each.

Marty,

Sorry to ask so many questions.

You mentioned you found the upgraded alternator on ebay as a take-off. Do you mean it was taken off a Kubota tractor and parted out for sale ?

I get next to no real results for the upgraded alternator with a google search.

I think that Denso makes a replacement which is compatible, but not sure.

I have sent an email off to Ronnie at TractorSmart and I'm waiting for a reply.

I asked him to see if the Kubota upgrade alternator is available too and the price.

***UPDATE*** Ron responded with pricing. He can ALL of the parts including the dynamo. GULP.... $890.47.

He would have to get the parts from various other dealers around the country, but he can get it all.

So. Now I gotta decide if it's worth the money.

Tim

The alternator was a brand new take off from a Kubota engine that needed a bigger one for some stationary application. The guy that was listing them did this all the time and had a large number available. I found it by searching on the part number which you have in the instructions. I think that number got updated over time, so you may have to do a little hunting. I paid about $70 instead of about $300 new as best I can recall. Good luck with the project.

Hi Marty.

I hope you can help....

I am stuck with the installation of the new Alternator on my B2150.

The parts include 2 bearings ( Part #08141-06310 ) and a pulley plus a pulley shaft with snap rings etc.

I have ruined one of the bearing already trying to get it into the pulley.

What's the secret method to getting the bearings into that pulley ?

Or do I have it wrong and the bearings do not go inside the pulley ?

It sure seems like they should. Unfortunately, I don't have a bearing press.

Any help/guidance would be appreciated.

And I also have 4 small flat washer "with rubber? I have no clue where those go. Any insights?

Thanks, Tim

Tim,
too long ago to remember the details. The picture in the instructions shows the bearings going into the pulley. My guess is I probably gently pounded them into the pulley with a socket ( so it only pushes on the outer edge), or that I used a vice to squeeze them in ( again with a socket). The rubber washers are #34 and they go on the hood bracket.

Thanks Marty.

I have managed to ruin one bearing while trying to press it into the pulley, but managed to get the other one installed. I have ordered a replacement bearing and have to wait for it to arrive ( Wednesday ).

Any recollection of where/how you ran the wiring harness ?

The instructions say to secure it to the "engine injection pipe", but not sure what they mean.

I may just try to run the new harness to be sure it's not touching the exhaust manifold/pipe.

While I'm waiting for the new bearing, I'm going to try to do everything else I can, so all I have to do is press in the second bearing and mount the alternator.

I have to say the instructions aren't much help. More of a general guide, if anything.

I swear, it took me 4 hours just to try figure out exactly how to mount the new alternator bracket. After that, it started to fall into place a little more.

You and Ronnie from TractorSmart have been the saving grace on this project.

After this is done, I have to install the work lights and I'm getting new tires on the tractor.

Then I should be set for a while..... unless I decide to mount a radio or something else.

I have successfully completed the installation of the new alternator.

I have not yet tested the voltage output, but I'm pretty certain all is good.

One question I have about the belt adjustment though?.

Do you have any idea how in the heck you are supposed to tighten up the lower belt properly ?

If you look at the Pulley Parts diagram, Part 030 (pulley shaft) is secured with a lock washer and nut. And then there is part #130 (Adjusting Bolt) which foes into part #120 (Retainer Spring).

Once you put the adjusting bolt into the retainer spring, you cannot reach the nut on the pulley shaft to loosen or tighten it.

I would think the best way to adjust the tightness of the lower belt, would be to tighten up on the adjusting bolt to slide the pulley, but that cant really be done unless you can loosen and tighten the nut on the shaft.

What I ended up doing was to use a bar/screwdriver to put pressure on the shaft of the lower tension pulley while the nut was loose and then held it into position and tightened up the nut. THEN I tightened up the so called adjusting bolt to help hold it into place.

It's a weird set-up, and I wonder if there is some method to this madness that I can't see.

Any suggestions for the future when I need to adjust the lower belt again ?

Thanks again for all of your help.

Regards, Tim
