Backhoe KUBOTA 4560 BACKHOE

I priced a new L4560 for my L4300 a few months ago. List was $11K /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif. As I recall it was going to be around $9800 installed. I think that included the subframe.

The unit has specs that come close to the BH90. However, my price sheet shows it being about $2500 more expensive. The reason, as far as I can determine, is that it has a self contained hydraulic system. This would make sense as the L4300 tractor hydraulics are kinda wimpy compared to Grand L hydraulics (6.4gpm vs. 9.8gpm).

Seems you got a very good price Gary. How's it working out for you?

Glad to hear it's easy on and off.

Bob,

I have not had much of a chance to use it, but it has no trouble digging through ice or digging into frozen ground. I think it will work out just fine.

I think part of the price is the pump, but it is built like a tank. It is just a heavy duty BH. I will let you know how it really works after mud season is over!

Here are a couple of pics of the 4560 in action at my place. This first shows the stump-a-thon of clearing 100+ trees where my workshop is being built. We're about 1/2 done in this shot.

Here's a good size pine stump about to be ripped out of the ground. Anything less than maybe 2,000 lbs, the 4560 will simply pick it up out of the pit. Some of the bigger ones, once you get the pit dug, it's easiest to simply cut a ramp down to the bottom and push the stump out of the hole with the FEL. Some of those probably weighed the same as the tractor... around 8,000 lbs.

Grandad,

Looks good! I hope to be giving mine a work out like that soon. Many large rocks to dig out and a lot of stumps to take care of. Based on what I have seen so far, this BH should have little problems with them.

But this morning I got up early to push back some snow while the ground was still frozen from last night and noticed the BH flopping back and forth a little. So I stopped to see what's up and found the swing piston leaking a stream of fluid. I had noticed last week it they were both weeping a bit so I had ordered seal kits for both sides. Looks like it will have to be resealed as soon as the kits come in. All of the other pistons look good, I wonder why these went? I am now wondering if I should just go ahead and reseal them all.

Happy digging,

Gary

Mine does the same thing! Just a small amount. I had planned the same maintenance once we are done with it for the summer months. The first couple times I used the hoe, I was pretty clumsy and abrupt with the swing, so I figured I had something to do with it being like that. No such problems with any of the other cylinders.

Two suggestions: 1. Operation is smoother at about 1,700 rpm than at full warp, at least for me. My motor skills are not quick enough to feather out the controls at higher rpm. You still have the same power, everything just runs at a slower pace.
2. When you shut down the rig, de-pressurize the hydraulics by cycling the joysticks - particularly the swing. Any tendency to weep will be less.

Be sure to keep the tank topped up with juice. If it gets too low, the operation gets erratic.

Grandad,

I also found it to be a lot smoother at 1700 – 1800 rpm. But what was a weep is now a stream on the right side piston. I'll bet a quart must of drained out of it. It needs to be resealed. I will let you know how it goes.

Good idea of cycling the valves. But this leak was so bad I could push the BH to one side and it would leak. It looks like the biggest part of the job will be to pull the pins. As long as they are not bent it should be a piece of cake.

I will keep you posted.

Bob,

That's 8.3 for the implement pump on the GrandL < 40hp, with the bigger machines having maybe a gallon more. That's not a lot to work with hydraulic implements, but the machines weren't designed for heavy hydro flow either.

It looked to me like the rear pins would be the toughest since you'd have to swing the thing left & right for clearance. I was figuring to raise the boom off the ground, swing it in one direction enough to pull the pin, shut it down and then swing it manually in the other direction for the other pin.

If you are going to do it anytime soon, and come up with a better approach, I'll owe ya a cold one!

Note to self: Those are some of the worst quality pics ever posted on TBN! Dial up the pixels a bit next time!

Note to others: Hope they didn't crack your trifocals!
