Backhoe KUBOTA 4560 BACKHOE

Grandad,

My plan is to swing the BH all the way one side and drop the pin. Pull the retainer, undo the end of the piston and use the hydraulics to blow out the seal. I know, this is the messy way to do it.... But with a big bucket and a sheet of plastic it as an easy clean up. And it works!!!! Reseal the piston and do the same to the other side.

So far the dealer has not called me to tell me the kits have come in, so tomorrow I may have to go down there and rattle their cage a little. I dropped the swing lock pin in the BH and it has helped stop the flow! Still trying to clear some of the last of the 2 feet of snow pack that remains over the gardens. I have piles of snow here that will still be here much past May 1st! Some still more than 10 feet high...... Summer is almost here.....

I was not going to comment on the pics, I got the idea! I still am impressed by your work and that of the 4560. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

That sure could get messy! You might want to pick a sunny, warm day when you can do it outside.

Still think it's a bit odd to see this happen on two new units. Mine doesn't leak as much as yours, but the seals are definitely not up to par. Maybe the cylinders were sitting dry in some Kubota warehouse for about 8 years and got brittle before going on these units.

We're a little closer to the equator down here... the ornamental trees are just blossoming. Didn't really have a winter this year... no real snow to speak of. You guys got your usual plus some this year... bet you've had it up to here with snow.

It is the messy way of doing it but it is a lot quicker. I use a large wash bucket and a sheet of plastic. Clean up is real easy.

I think you are right, there seems to be some issue with these piston. Going to be interesting to see what the seals look like, The seal kits came in yesterday, so with a little luck I will get to them some time this week. For today I will just leave the swing lock pin in place, it seems to keep the pressure off of the pistons.

We had about a normal winter up here, they really got nailed to the south. But it is spring, you can tell, there is only about a two foot snow pack left! I will spent most of the day running down to Johny's Seeds to pick up seed stuff and build some new cold frames. Sometime this weekend when no one is looking I may install my new FEL tooth bar! Got to get ready for summer!

You will love that 852 with a toothbar on it. It's a mini-CAT and will dig just about anything. I ripped open a 90-year packed rock and gravel road to a depth of 3 ft. to install a culvert - that was before the backhoe - with the FEL a couple of years ago. Wouldn't want to do it all the time, but figured if it can do that, it will do anything I would ever ask of it.

Well, I was suppose to be building a cold frame this afternoon, but somehow the tooth bar seemed to get mounted on the FEL. Go figure!!!! Long story, but I opted for a Koyker 210 instead of the Kubota FEL .... so far I think I am happy with the decision.

The ground was to soft to try the tooth bar this evening, but I plan on playing with it early in the morning while the ground is still frozen. Looks like it can do some serious damage!

Grandad,

Just resealed the swing cylinders. Interestingly the seals were actually "shrunk" into the groves of the piston. There was no sign of metal to metal contact. It is just like the seals dried up? Let's see how the new ones do. It was an easy job.... under an hour to do both. I think I am going to explore replumbing the bypass hoses directly into the reservoir. I cannot understand the logic behind the way they are installed.

Thanks for the update. Your description of the seals kinda fits with my armchair theory about why they leaked. My BH is off the tractor now and we're deep into springtime chores like mowing and tilling, plus some serious grading work. I won't catch a break for another couple of months, so it will be a while before I try to do anything with the seals on my BH.

I have a Kubota L4310 which I'd like to mate to a Kubota 4560 backhoe which I got for what seemed to me to be a decent deal of $3900.

Could you point me to the type of ROPS I need for installing the 4560 subframe to the tractor? I've got a manual for the 4560 but it doesn't detail mounting the subframe onto the different tractors it was designed for.

I tried hashing it out with a local Kubota dealer but they were somewhat discouraging in my attempts to find information about how to make it work.

I then found your thread on mounting up the 4560 BH to the L4310 and I figured you're the people I need to talk to.

the BH kit came with what seems to be the subframe that I've pretty much figured out how to mount to the tractor if only the ROPS had some extra bracket to bolt the subframe onto it seems that it'd fit pretty well.

Thanks for any input you might have!
