Comparison Kubota 5740 or Mahindra or Kioti

I also think that keeping yours after the repair, as long as it appears that the new part has been improved, seems to be the better option. Unless you will break even or make money on the deal. There won't be many tractors with HST that offer more capacity than your 5740. In fact, I think only the Deere 4720 / 4066 offers more PTO horsepower in this class then your 5740. As other people have mentioned, there are pros and cons to all models, and each brand will have some spec or attribute that may give it a slight edge over the other brands. But overall they are all close, and if you like the tractor and it gets fixed, I don't see anything wrong with keeping it.

Screw lodgic, and reason, and value-based decisions! I say get a new tractor! Because you can. And because new!

Getting rid of your tractor after warranty expiry could prove a long term winning bid! If budget is not of an issue...

Good afternoon Guys, Well I got the 5740 back today and it is all fixed and back in working order. I also tested a 3550 and that thing really is built like a brick crap house. I thought the hydraulics might be an issue and on the slow side but they were just a tad slower then the Kubota. Weight wise it weighs more and lifts more. I did miss the hydro being attached to the throttle but figured as much going into it. Overall for what I do I feel the 3550 would be a better tractor. Good enough to sell the Kubota and switch ... I am not sure yet. If the PTO power was the same as my Kubota I would say hands down yes and I would sell the 5740 today. I am going to sleep on it. One thing that really does bother me about the Mahindra loader is that it does not use steel lines and I don't know why but that really bothers me. I did check out the Massey and you were right the fit and finish were excellent but of course it uses a DPF which is an issue. Mahindra is the only company that I am aware of that uses a cat in that size range. Of course as some of you have pointed out my current 5740 has zero emmisions so... As far as price I have price quotes from everyone. I am able to get state contract prices so they are all at about 30k except JD which is more and Kioti which is less. I will of course post which way I decide to go. By the way the new L6060 which is the replacement for my 5740 Hoober which is of course HUGE has not sold one all year do to DPF issues. Ouch! Glenn

I'm not sure if this is even an option, and it might sound crazy, but I'd at least consider a different approach. I'd keep the Kubota, load the tires, and get a big counterweight for the 3pt...like 1200-1500lbs. Then, I'd look for a solid 2wd tractor to use as a mule for the PTO generator. That cuts down on wear/tear on the newer machine, and frees up the Kubota for other duties when you're running your processor. There are quite a few really nice 2wd 50hp machines around that people don't seem to be interested in so the prices are reasonable.

Okay, I'll admit...it also means you have another tractor which is always a bonus! :D

Sorry guys I thought I had put in the original post that my tires were already loaded but I just looked and obviously I did not include this information. I do have a 55 gallon drum filled with concrete and rebar that I currently use as a weight box for the back of the tractor. It is of course plenty heavy enough but when I am using the blade there goes my weight. When using the blade for snow the darn thing will push my back end all over the place. As far as a second tractor I had thought of that but space is already very limited and I don't really want another engine to have to maintain. I am aware that I am really complaining about something that most people would love to be able to complain about and I also know in the grand scheme of things this is not a life changing decision. I am thinking that I may just hold off on things until someone comes out with something bigger with my HST transmission. Like a JD 5000 series or something. Of course then I get to deal with the DPF again. My cousin works for JD Corp so getting rid of the DPF on a JD is a lot easier then on say the Kubota but it is still a hassle. I did learn the other day that while disabling the emission system is elegal it does not void your power train warranty. Thought that was interesting. (That is the case for JD and Kubota not sure about the rest)

I added two sets of wheel weights to my L5740HSTC, that with fluid filled tires and the cab give me all the traction I need. My box scraper and rotary cutter both weigh about 1100 pounds.

The bota is a known entity with its issue resolved. Unless you WANT a new tractor i see no pressing need to get one

KUDOS for Kubota making such a pricey fix OUT OF WARRANTY!

Is it just the generator or is it loader work as well? If you just need more PTO power I would think about finding an older larger tractor from a farm. I often see 2wd ones without loaders in the 65 to 70 hp range for cheap. You would always have your 5740 as backup. If you do need more loader capability I would try to find something at your place that's right at the limits of your 5740 then ask the dealer to drop it off so you can try it out. Work out a price before hand and tell him that if it fits your needs then he'll be returning with an empty trailer. I don't think a good dealer would object to that.

Well, yes, good on Kubota for fixing it 15 days out of warranty, and I agree that keeping the tractor makes the most sense if the new 3-bead seal was used. But if original seal failure is a known issue at fewer than break-in hours on the 5740 and two other models, seems to me they should either be recalling all of them, or substantially extending the warranty on that part in every case.
