Re: KUBOTA 60\" MMM GIVING A VERY POOR CUT

Do yhey also make higher lift blades for the 60" mmm? My Woods brush cutter had the four swinging blades on backwards. I went to check how the blades were doing and was amazed how well they were holding their edge even after taking a few swies at some embeeded rocks etc. My brain started thinking something must not be right, there should at least be a knick or two. I flipped all four blades over. The cut was better, but not incredibly. The tractor noticed some difference. On my finish mower, the higher lift blades work very well at pulling the grass/weeds up and cutting it evenly.

Re: KUBOTA 60\" MMM GIVING A VERY POOR CUT

I have no idea...... I have never measured either the deck cutting hight or the grass hight. I just know that I have to mow twice a week during the summer, unless it is very dry. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Quote from your initial post: ( I love my Kubota BX2230 don't get me wrong, but I get a poor cut with the 60" MMM. Now, I have done every thing I know to do. Sharpened Blades, leveled the deck many times.)

Quote from your second post: ( if the blades are wrong they came from the factory that way because I have not changed them, or replaced them)

These statements seem to contradict each other. Have you removed the blades or not? If you have sharpened them, did you attempt this without removing them? Are you trying to say that you removed and sharpened them but put them back in the same way you found them? If so, you still may have inadvertently flipped them. It also could be entirely possible that a new factory worker made a mistake and put them on upside down, particularly if it was a teenager working part time. (When we go through fast food drive-throughs, we receive something that's incorrect over half the time.) You should examine the blades' orientation before you decide to buy new ones; you could be spending $ unnecessarily.

Re: KUBOTA 60\" MMM GIVING A VERY POOR CUT

The blade adjustment height should be accurate for the height you do the leveling at. If you follow the directions, I believe it is for 2" (if memory serves correctly). At that point, you will adjust height to be accurate. The other heights may or may not be accurate at that point, I don't really know. I do know that the way the deck attaches to the front, it is not a straight lift up.

My opinion is that it is important to do the leveling at the height you are most likely to mow at that way you are sure you have a level deck for your mowing preference. If that is 3 then do it at 3 not 2.

It is a pain to adjust, but some of the ideas for measuring are very good. I would recommend cutting some wooden blocks at the heights you want to use as well as the heights you want to check once you have completed. Wood gauges are cheap and easy to make.

Good luck and I hope you get the cut you desire.

I am happy with mine, but I do not have a show lawn so I can't fairly say it's professional quality.

Re: KUBOTA 60\" MMM GIVING A VERY POOR CUT

I used a Pro zip sharpener which allowed me to sharpen the blades and not remove them, really isn't the best way to sharpen blades but very fast. I'm still gona check everything next weekend, this upside down thing has got me thinking,
How in the world could I have overlooked something like that if that is the case. To zip them and still not notice, a scary thought.

Re: KUBOTA 60\" MMM GIVING A VERY POOR CUT

If you are having to recut in some places it really sounds as if your blades are flipped. The BX 60 inch deck is one heck of a mower. It sounds like its slapping the grass instead of cutting it.
One thing to try also is to reposition the blades per the mower manual.
I hope you find the problem.

Re: KUBOTA 60\" MMM GIVING A VERY POOR CUT

IF the blades were on in the correct position, your attempts to sharpen were from the wrong side and would possibly make the cut worse. If they are on incorrectly, the back side of the blade is still bushwacking the grass. Sharpening can be done several ways. Still, some are effective and others not. Here is a recent thread on blade sharpening.

lstumper067,

Around here cutting grass is still a dream...it's not even turning green yet...

Just wondering...what kind of poor cut are you getting? I am curious because I could be getting a poor cut too, without realizing it. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

The reason I say this is because I had a 60 Woods RD6000 RFM on my larger tractor and it cut pretty well. I traded it in on a BX2200 with MMM and frankly did not notice much difference in the cut on my yard. I say yard, because we don't have show lawn, just a yard...

Anyway, before buying the BX, I heard high praise of the BX as a mower. I'm not saying it is not a great mower, as it does OK by me. But so did my RFM...

I'd be curious to hear the specific reasons you feel the BX mower is not doing as well as expected for you.

Just interested...I've been happy with mine...but generally I'm pretty easy to please... /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
