Buy the Branson. You'll be different (red is prettier than orange), you'll save money, and you'll have it forever so resale value is mute. Go for it.

There are some major differences in the mechanics of the tractor. The Bransen is a sync shuttle that requires clutching between FWD and reverse, 95% of what Kubota sells is Hydraulic shuttles that you don't clutch. Kubota has the cheaper transmission available if you ask. You also have a dry clutch for the transmission, and probably the PTO as well (they don't say). If this is the case, your much more likley to be doing clutch replacments at $2,000 a pop, especialy with a sync-shuttle transmission. There is major expense in this stuff, its not as simple as picking two 60ish HP tractors as assuming they should cost the same. Thats not to say that there is not a place for an economey built machine, for your uses it may make sense. If thats what your after you can find other major brands, like New Holland and Deere that do offer cheaper high HP tractors with more simple technology (TD/TT-A). That way you'll have the more basic machine, but backed by a company who's ownership and distribution seems to change every 2-3 years.

They are exactly the same except the paint and the price. Quality, reliability, parts, resale, design, casting quality, and fuel efficiency are equal. :)

another option - Mahindra - heavier machines, more lifting capacity, etc.

good value and great dealer network - this is coming from a guy that just bought a kubota - but i almost bought the mahindra - they are VERY good machines for the money - i just bought kubota because i haven't heard any of my pals complain about theirs. If i had to buy a new tractor tomorrow - i would be looking at kubota AND mahindra - parts availability and dealer reputation should be a big consideration when buying.

good luck. let us know what you do.

Ya, they probably built them in the same plants they just desguised the Kubota and made the weight lighter so they can sell more Bransons and make more money out of the older castings they used to build it with.

Let's no foget lighter weight for some owners is an advantage. Mowing contractors have less weight compressing their customer's turf or septic systems. Contractors don't have to buy as heavy of a truck or trailer to tow around their landscape tractors or utility tractors.

I'd rather have a lighter unit and have the option to add weight than be stuck with a heavier unit that I cannot make lighter. ;)

Gee Arthur, Our Kubotas say manufactured in Japan all over the place. I don't see made in Korea anywhere (except on some of my cheapie throw away electronics devices). We all know of the execellent quality of those.. :)

For what its worth, I just about bought a Branson 4720i. Two of my neighbors have Branson's and love them. We have a dealership that carried them for some time (all thought I'm not sure exactly how long) and now he has switched over to the Mahindra's.

One other note...One of my neighbors has a Branson B/H attachment on his 4720i. He was able to bend one of the down riggers on it during use. I'm not sure if it was caused from abuse or if its a common problem but its something worth looking into. I'm pretty sure he got it covered under warranty.

Looking at his machine, it seems well built from what I can tell but I must admit, I don't regret paying more for my Kubota. It was a tough decision at the time but I'm happy with it. I don't think you can really go wrong either way. I also agree that you're not buying a tractor as an investment, they all depreciate, including Harley's. Buy it and use it.

Good luck.
