Comparison Kubota 7040 or New Holland 4030

Good luck and keep working that deal. Sounds like you're going to have a nice toy as well. I went with just the radials on the front. I also added an extra remote. I could have got it for just over $50000 in a cash deal but I took the 0% financing deal. I'm supposed to take delivery by Dec 15. Tractor is in but the plow hasn't arrived. I'm upgrading from a 1974 165 Massey 2WD with no cab so I'm just a tad excited

Thanks I will..

Apparently to have the 3rd function I need an upgrade loader control valve, added expense... I'm quite certain, given the options I've chosen I am getting a very good deal!

PaleFX,

Yours is a decision I recently had to make. I ended up with the 7040 cab HSDC.

Good things for me about the NH 4030 were the extra ranges and lower overall height. I didn't like the little hump on the NH - the Kubota was a flat deck.

Extra ranges would be nice on the Kubota but for what I am doing - which sounds very much like what you are doing - I'm doing fine. If you are seriously thinking about haying though, consider moving up to the M8540.

Big thing Kubota had going for me was comfort with the brand, quality and dealers in the area. I'll bet you are not too far from me! I dealt with Larry Doble - the owner of Ross Doble. Sounds like the NH dealer you are dealing with is Bob Marks. I found Larry to be a very straight up honest guy. He gave me a great deal on everything including my trades. I traded in everything - tractor, blower, bush hog, forks, hay spear for bigger size implements and in the case of the forks and spear to switch them to Euro style ones.

I don't mind the Euro style at all. I find it takes more practice to get it on right but I LOVE the fact that it automatically locks the attachment once you lift it up and curl it. For SSQA you have to get off the tractor and lock the pins down.

In this size tractor, as you might be aware, around here in Ontario - pretty much all the farmers have the ALO/Euro Style.

My loader is the Kubota M25 which is made by ALO. You might want to check to see if there is a difference between the M20 and M25 - get the biggest one you can!

If it is not too far from you, I would strongly recommend getting a quote from Larry at Ross Doble as well.

They guy that supplies me hay has larger NH tractors and a Kubota 7040. In his opinion the NH were good tractors but did not hold up in resale value like the Kubotas in our area.

Regardless of which way you go - NH or Kubota - I doubt you will be sorry. Both seem like mighty fine tractors.

BTW - definitely load those rear tires in addition to the cast iron rims.

All the best and let us know how it goes!

canoetrpr thanks alot!!

You're correct I was dealing with Bob Marks. We can't be too far apart...
I have a friend who did well by him so I thought I would give him some consideration.

I will check in with Ross Doble as you suggest..

Thanks again!
I'll keep you posted.

One thing I forgot that you mentioned was radial tires. My JD 5520 came with crap bias ply tires on it and I regretted it from the get-go. A year later they still looked like new so I had a tire shop take them in trade and I got four Firestone radials. Mine are 12.4x24 and 18.4x30 and my PTO HP is 75 and engine HP 86. Weight for my 4wd with no loader was 5824 to start.

It came with cast centers so that added 200 lbs, the radials added 350 (wow) two rear weights on each side 640, the loader frame 500 ?, the front starter weight bracket 300 ? and 900 lbs of front weights I sometimes use for tillage. With that weight the radials really grip and barely leave a mark on the wet lawn areas around the barn.
I think 12.4x24 and 18.4x30 might be a little too much for your combo but that is subjective. If you add the weight I would say no. On mine, the radials made a dramatic improvement and I think Firestone was my best choice. Michelins great as well but there are some off-brand stinlers out there so research it. Mine are long bar.long bar.
Filling rear tires has not worked for me since it is so "permanent" I am unable to adjust for conditions and the tractor wheels eventually rot. Adjusting air pressure is a mess and a flat is a disaster.

Once in my 96 hp Kubota 8950 with 12.4 x34 and 18.4x34 filled tires I got a leak about 2 miles from the house and over the river and through the woods. It was a disaster because of the weight. Just the front tire took all day to get off in the mud and even the residual weight damaged my truck bed. What a mess and as a raven flew overhead, I mentioned "nevermore".
Again, my two cents.

I've had more trouble with radial tires than I care to admit. They just do not hold up like bias ply tires too. I had one blow out, the entire sidewall just split on the highway, about a month ago. Ride isn't worth it if the tires dont hold up IMO.

What brand of radial? I've never heard of that kind of a problem.

PaleFX:

Larry orders all of his M7040s configured the same way with the front two tires radial and the rear two bias ply. He seemed to suggest that this was the best compromise between price and function. I'm quite happy with my setup.

The radials are not Michelin or Firestone but another brand that he has been happy with.

Dealer suggests euro style FEL and says ez to add adapter... Any suggestions..?
I see most attachments as skid steer style.. Are there any advantages to either?

I THINK the euro may be built stronger? I've only seen it on larger 100hp+ tractors around here. I have the skidsteer style and it works fine. The only argument as to which would be better for me is that if I don't have an attachment I cant rent or borrow one that will fit fairly easily.
